How to Single Crochet

If you are absolutely new to the field of crochet, start with the basics of learning how to single crochet. Read the elaborated content below and you will know what I am saying...
Initially, starting off a project particularly in the field of art and craft like crochet and knitting is the most hardest part in the history of learning. If you're new to the field, things look slow all the more. In terms of crochet, almost all the fancy hook and loop stitches are quite tricky. Like in case of single crochet which also happens to be the first basic stitch in the world of crochet, things are the same. To begin with the lessons of single crochet, pick up a yarn, a crochet hook and make a foundation chain consisting of a required length. Now how to proceed further glance below...

Single Crochet Stitching Steps

Single crochet is like learning how to make the most basic stitch in the field of crocheting. Once you master this primary form of stitch, you will begin to hook and loop every next pattern and design you see in crochet.

1. Step: In the first step, you have to make a chain stitch of the required length, say 11 chain stitches.

2. Step: Now in the second chain stitch from the hook, insert the crochet hook through the ridge in the back of the same.

3. Step: Yarn over the hook and pull the yarn through the chain stitch. This gives 2 loops on the crochet hook.

4. Step: Again yarn over and pull the loop through both the loops which are on the hook. In this manner you complete one crochet.
(Note: To know how to single crochet across the entire length of the chain, here in gently insert the hook into the next chain stitch and repeat all the above discussed steps once more). Well, this is not the end to working the single crochet. To continue the rows of a single chain pattern stitch, keep following these steps below:

5. Step: By chaining 1, now finely work a turning stitch on your project. Raise your yarn to the exact height and begin with the next row. Reverse your project in the opposite direction and continue working in that manner.

6. Step: In the final step, insert the hook in the first stitch of your previous row and repeat all the above steps once again. For doing this, you will have to stitch across each previous row just to complete another row.

For all the consequent rows, every time chain 1 and turn your work (like step 5). Immediately repeat step 6 and continue working.
So do you see that! If you carefully read these uncomplicated steps on knowing how to make a single crochet, implementing this stitch on your patterns would take half of your crocheting time. The art of crocheting is very vast and certainly doesn't exhaust by merely learning a few crochet stitches. Even if you master all the stitches in this domain, the recognition of your work would be the time when you enforce it.

What is Reverse Crochet

Well unlike single pattern stitch where at the end of the row you turn your work in the opposite direction, a reverse crochet stitch simply works the other way round. Instead of crocheting from right to left, begin from left to right by inserting the hook in the next stitch to the right. Another name given to this stitch is the 'crab stitch'. This stitch usually develops decorative borders at finishing edges. It is an adept solution to know how to decrease single crochet while rounding off necklines and armholes in clothing. Crab stitch has a symbol which has an X with ~ on the crown of the cross.

The steps discussed above are best suit for beginners and all the new comers to crocheting. If you desire to watch how a stitch or a crochet pattern looks in reality, refer to illustrated online videos and tutorials for further reference. Hope you do a good job!
