Sending Email to Cell Phones - Conventional Method
For cell phones that have access to the Internet, you can choose the conventional method. This method includes sending the email from the sender's email account to the recipient's email account. The recipient can then use the web in his mobile phone or PDA to check if he has received the email in his email inbox. But what if the cell phone does not have access to the Internet? In such a situation, you will have to think of the second method of using the SMS gateway address of the recipient.
Using this method, the recipient will not be able to view the message in the email format and font, which was used while sending. He will be able to view the message in a simple text format. So, from the sender's end, the email will certainly go as an email; but when it comes to the recipient, the email will be received as a text message on the receiver's mobile phone.
Sending Email to Cell Phones - SMS Method
For the SMS method, you are required to have some essential details such as the phone number of the recipient, his service provider, and the SMS gateway address of the service carrier. If you have these details, you can easily send text message from computer to a cell phone.
If you have the recipient's cell phone number, you will have to find out which provider's service he is using. You can take the details directly from the recipient, or simply use the Internet. There are many websites which provide information of a person by just providing his phone number. The service provider of the recipient will also be displayed in the results.
Now when you know about the service provider, you can easily find the SMS gateway that you need to send the email to. The SMS gateway is a point which receives the email from the sender, transfers it to a text message, and then sends it to the recipient's mobile phone. Every service provider has its own format of SMS gateway address.
Generally, the SMS gateway address of a service provider is the receiver's cell number@the extension of the service carrier domain name. For example, the SMS gateway address of Virgin Mobile will be (phone number)@vmobl.com. The address varies from service provider to service provider, so the email address will be different in case of a different provider.
If you want to send email to cell phone, you can even use a website which provides free texting facilities. This is probably the easiest method of sending a text message to a cell phone.
