Trying desperately to make a failing marriage work but don't know how to go about it? Read this article if you are looking for tips on how to save a marriage.
Susan is torn. She still loves Jere. But she does not know how to save their marriage when they've drifted apart so much. The constant fights, the bickering, the squabbles and the emotional draining of her senses, has made her wonder several times whether all this is worth it. It's just not the same. Not like how it used to be anyway. But she wants to know how to save a relationship nonetheless.

Pete cannot believe that Kate, his wife of 3 years has cheated on him. The love of his life has left him a wretched soul. He loves her, but he's angry at what she's done. They've separated for the time being to sort out their problems, and now they're both wondering how to save a marriage after cheating, and after so much has happened between them.

There must be several Susans, Jeres, Kates and Petes out there - going through their own emotional issues, dealing with all the major problems that sometimes a marriage brings along (there are bound to be small fights in any relationship. I don't refer to those here). This article is especially for those of you who have had their share of marital problems and are dealing with certain issues at this present moment. The issues have gotten so complicated (perhaps) that they are looking for ways by which they can save their marriage. Here are some pointers.

Saving a Marriage after Separation

When a marriage reaches to the point of separation, it means that the situation was rather bad. Maybe there were bad fights involved. No one opts for separation unless there seems to be no other option. But the love and feelings that we experience for the other person, do not go away as easily. They continue to come back and remind us of the life we made together. So we begin to think about how to save a failing marriage. How to deal with all that is going on and yet be able to sustain that relationship.

Allow Time to Pass
Sometimes separation becomes imperative so that you can cool off and learn to look at things from an objective perspective once again. It allows for time to pass and let things calm down. When you want to begin the task of saving a marriage, it is important to start at neutral grounds so that you are able to make decisions that are not guided by you being unreasonable or overreacting to situations.

Respect your Partner
It is important that you respect your partner - only then will you be able to save a marriage. Avoid shouting at the other and definitely no name calling. Learn to respect the opinions and give the other a chance to be an equal in the relationship.

Learn to Communicate
Communication is probably the key on how to save a marriage. Unless you communicate and tell each other how you feel, what are the things that are affecting you and the like, you cannot expect things to work out. This should be the first step, start communicating and telling your partner things instead of bottling them up and letting them fester.

Compromise
Again. A very very important prerequisite for any successful relationship. It is not possible that two people will be exactly the same, therefore there are bound to be differences in opinions, thoughts and feelings. The point is that you do not allow these differences escalate into fights. Don't insist on having it your way or his way at all times. Learn to compromise instead and be flexible. Sometimes you give in, sometimes the other. This will go a long way in building an understanding between the two of you and prevent things from getting out of hand.

Don't Postpone Things
If you've had a fight, solve it as soon as possible. Do not let it sit and take up the form of something ugly. If fights are not resolved, they lead to suppressed anger that builds up over time and starts to show in form of over reactions to unrelated things. That could lead to more misunderstandings and fights.

Form a Bond
Learn to bond with the other. If you have drifted apart, make it a point to start spending more time together and resolve not to fight during your outing or date.

Take Counseling
Sometimes it is best if you get a mediator to sort out the problems you are facing. That is why opting for marriage counseling is a positive step to take. A mediator will help you stay calm and provide an objective approach to the problem. In this way, seeking the professional help of a counselor will go a long way in helping you understand the other person's point of view and help to save the marriage.

Saving a Marriage after Cheating

Cheating in a marriage will lead to a lot of mental trauma for the person who realizes that his partner has cheated on him. It will lead to a sense of hopelessness, anger, hurt or even lend a severe beating to their self-esteem. In such a case, the major responsibility lies with the person who has given in to infidelity.

Realize your Mistake
Realize that you've made a mistake. And really mean it when you want to make the relationship work.

Apologize
It is important that you apologize to your partner for what you did. Do not expect that they will be able to forgive you immediately. Understand that they will require time to get over what you've done. Give yourself that time to make things work.

Talk and Listen
Talk about what happened. Tell him/her why you had the affair. What were the reasons behind it. Be patient during this time and let your partner vent out their feelings as well.

Make Amends
Now that you've discussed what went wrong, discuss the things that are missing in the marriage and what you'd like to change as well. Start communicating about each others feelings and needs. Start spending more time together. Learn to renew that bond and fall in love again.

Be Persistent
Tell your partner that you want things to work out and are willing to do what it takes. Be persistent in your efforts to make things work out. There will not be any miracle waiting for you. You will have to work for it. It will take time for things to go back to normal. But don't give up hope and work towards it. Think about seeking professional counseling if things seem to go out of hand.

Saving a marriage from failing is always a difficult task, but hopefully these pointers will make things easier for you. I wish you all the best in your efforts and hope you succeed in making things work.
