Rollerblading for Beginners
Start learning on the carpet so that you get used to the height and learn to stand with rollerblades. The basics of rollerblading are quite similar to the basics of skateboarding. The three basic lessons to learn for the beginners are stopping, striding and turning. If you have learned stopping, you can land anywhere. The heel brake is generally placed on the right heel of every skate. Start rolling forward slowing, take the posture with arms in front, ankles relaxed and knees a little bent. While maintaining the posture, take your right foot forward and right toe to feel the presence of the brake. Once you learn stopping, try putting weight on each foot, one after another. Now, when you are done with it, start taking turns. Look into the direction in which you want to turn and point your toe in the same direction. Be in the same posture and try taking turns in different directions. One you command these three techniques, you just need regular practice and you will be perfect.
Rollerblading Faster
After learning the initials techniques, start increasing the speed. To attain a standard speed you need to set an achievable goal according to your capacity and measure you fitness to cover the distance. Some techniques that should be kept in mind while rollerblading are, keeping up a lower posture and bend a little to the side to exert maximum energy rather than moving with straight back. Increase the step length and put your weight on the other leg. Before your striding leg touches the ground, bring it around in a loop. Apply the same technique on the other leg also and move forward with increasing the speed in each step.
Backward Rollerblading
Take the required posture, keep the knees apart and balance yourself while moving forward. For rolling backward you need to pull your feet towards yourself and then push them to open again. Put your weight on the toes while pulling them close, this will give a wave-like effect. After mastering over waves, start pushing your foot away from yourself one by one. While pushing yourself backward, cross your one foot behind the other. This will help you to change the direction in a backward motion.
Rollerblading Downhill
Bend your back forward from the waist to bring down the center of gravity. Keep pulling your skates close to each other while going down. Using outer skate as a pivot, put your maximum weight on the inner skate. Keep reducing the speed from time to time. You can also apply inline skating techniques while learning because it is very similar to rollerblading.
Don't try figure skating techniques until you have mastered rollerblading. Falling a few times is inevitable, but you just be ready with all your safety equipment. If you fall in the correct way, then it's not a matter to worry about. Try to fall forward instead of falling backward and maintain the posture to get less hurt. Try to land first on the knees then on the elbows and lastly on to the wrist. Don't let your head hit the ground and stretch your arms outward to maintain the balance. So, practice and practice and practice until you master it. Take off and enjoy!!
