There are definitely some obvious factors that has caused your Xbox 360 DVD drive to stop functioning. In this article, read them all and learn how to replace an Xbox 360 DVD drive in a few simple steps...

Tutorial to Help Replace Your Xbox 360 DVD Drive
When you learn about DVD drive problems like errors, unreadable discs, etc., that's the time you know you have to resolve the problem at the earliest. For this, all you need are some tools like a Torx screwdriver set and an Xbox 360 tool knife.
Note: Determine the type of DVD drive you have in your console. Like say, if it is a BenQ, Samsung or Hitachi drive, depending on these brands you can decide to buy your new Xbox 360 DVD drive replacement piece. Microsoft has developed 3 kinds of DVD drives which they offer in the Xbox 360. Moreover, it is absolutely necessary to purchase the identical brand for your console so that it works effectively.
Directions
Step 1
Flip open the casing of your console, remove the hard drive and also remove the face plate. Now use the tool knife, flip the hard drive over and unscrew the 6 screws that are present at the bottom of the drive. Also at the rear of the drive will be a green data board held by small clips and ribbon cables. Remove all of them carefully. Finally pull out the cover once the screws are opened up.
Step 2
After the above step is performed successfully, push the square tab on the bottom of the drive to eject the circuit board. This will give you an entry to be able to reach the Xbox 360 disc drive considerably.
Step 3
Now you will see 4 cables running from the drive to the board. One is the laser, one the worm motor, the other is the spindle hub and last one is the tray gear. First safely unplug both the cables, i.e., the SATA cable and power supply cable from the old system and then remove the other two as well.
Step 4
With the removal of all these cables the next immediate step is to replace the old for new. This is the actual part where you will have to swap the old drive with the new one. So set the old disk drive aside and insert the new drive into the Xbox 360 old board console. This reassembly procedure is supposed to be worked in a backward fashion.
Step 5
Fix everything back the way it was when you opened the drive. Make sure you push the power and the SATA cable into the drive properly. Also check for the other two cables in the drive as well as in the main outlet. Once you are sure with the reassembly, clap shut the drive cover, fasten all the screws and check the working of your console.
Slip in a game disc and check for the power lights, the display and related features. If it works, good enough, if not you will have to open everything once again and correct the error.
Simple ain't it? Well the DVD drive used in Xbox 360 is just designed for the purpose of fulfilling the need of running specific game discs for specific game consoles. So only if you are comfortable in going ahead with the procedure to replace an Xbox 360 DVD drive, then it would be a sensible call on your part!
