• Thatch rake
• Landscaping fabric

Method #1

• The foremost thing to do is to locate the ryegrass. They are characterized by glossy leaves and clumpy flowers which are found in the months between September and April. So locate the area and sprinkle white chalk power on it so as to mark the spot.
• Now take a spade and dig about 2 inches deep around the area you have marked. You can moisten the soil if it is too hard with the help of water and remove all the ryegrass from that area.
• Now take the landscaping fabric which is filled with herbicides. Place this fabric over the rye grass area. As this is infused with herbicides it will restrict the growth of ryegrass seeds. Put something heavy over the fabric in order to keep it down. The best time to place this fabric is the summer which will completely vanish the growth of these grasses.
• Now when you want some other plants or grass to grow at that place, just remove the fabric and aerate it with the help of the thatch rake and pour the preferred seed, composite and water.

• Locate the rye grass in your garden and mow it as much as possible with the help of mower.
• As rye grasses rely a lot on water to get rid of them you need to stop watering them. After about two weeks of dryness, just cover the area with a plastic sheet. This plastic sheet will restrict the entry of moisture completely and the hot sun during the day will kill the rye grass completely.
• Now with the help of the thatch rake, rake your lawn and remove all the dead grass from it. Leave the land like that for some days so that any remaining grass will die as well.
• Watch if the rye grass are still growing over the next two weeks. If it happens then get herbicides and treat the land with it. Do not do this spraying on a windy day or when it is raining as it can affect the other healthy plants also.
• Once you get rid of these grasses completely, you can try out other grasses or plants at its place.
