How to Remove Paint from Concrete
Removing paint from concrete can be a very challenging as well as time-consuming task. You cannot remove paint from concrete by simply scrubbing it up. You have to apply certain methods to pull out the paint from the concrete surface. You should be patient, as you may have to repeat the methods a number of times before you can get rid of the mark completely. There are a few methods that will help make removing paint from concrete easier for you.

How to Remove Paint from Concrete

An effective method is pressure washing where high power pressure is used for removing paint from concrete. It works for most of the paints, except some strong ones like epoxy. However, this process of cleaning is applicable only for outdoor surfaces. Another method of removing paint from concrete on outdoor surfaces is by using floor grinders with diamond wheels. This method can be used only if you plan to have a topping of cement because the grinder often leaves scrapes on the concrete.

Use of Shotblaster to Remove Paints
There is a machine called shotblaster that can be used to remove paint from concrete. It has a lot of similarity with the sandblaster. The only difference is that it throws out tiny metal beads instead of sand. There is a vacuum joined to the machine that can be used to clean up the beads, dusts and the debris that were released during the process of cleaning. After this process, the surface of the concrete floor becomes well-prepared for any kind of coatings and toppings. The machine should be moved on the concrete carefully at such a pace that it does not strip off any concrete.

Use of Strippers for Removing Paints
The most popular technique to remove paint from concrete is by using chemical strippers. A number of variety of stripping agents can be found in the market. Soy-based strippers are the best because they are safe and easy to use. They are found in the form of gel. The best thing is that the gel can be re-used a number of times. If the paint coat is thick, you can use it over and over again on the same surface. However, it takes a longer time to show the desired results.

Apply the gel on the affected area and allow it to settle for a while on the paint. The stripper will help the stiff paint to loosen up to a great extent. Then, strip off the gel with the help of a thick plastic scraper. You will find the paint has come out of the concrete. If required, apply it once again for better removal. Once the maximum amount of paint is out, rub the surface with a nylon brush after pouring some scouring powder and water to scrub out the remaining soft paint particles. Finally, rinse thoroughly with water and you can get a clean finish.

Avoid using chemical strippers that are toxic in nature to remove paint from concrete floor. They show quick action, but are harmful for the eyes, skin and cause environmental pollution. If you wish to use them, take all possible precautionary measures with appropriate protective gear like gloves and respiratory masks. The area where the they are to be used, should have proper ventilation and any furnaces or boilers or pilot light kept in the region should be turned off.
