How to Remove Fake Nails

If you want to know the procedure for removing fake nails at home, then read the following article for step wise instructions on the same.
These days, women do not get much time to grow and maintain long nails. Even if they do get time, the nails might be weak and thus, get chipped easily. Still, many of us women pine for gorgeous looking nails which we can flaunt. A good alternative for long natural nails are the artificial nails, such as acrylic nails, gel nails and press-on nails. Many salons offer their services for putting on as well as removing these fake nails. You can carry out fake nail removal at home too, by following the below given step by step procedure.

How to Take off Fake Nails
To remove fake nails at home, you will need a nail polish remover, nail clipper, bowl and a moisturizer.

Step 1
The first step in taking off fake nails at home, is to find a place where you are very comfortable to carry out the whole process. A convenient option for this would be a kitchen table. You may also play some music so that you do not get bored while removing the nails. Also, cover the table with newspapers so that the place does not get dirty.

Step 2
Once you are seated comfortably, cut the fake acrylic nails to a very small size. You can use a pair of nail clippers for this purpose. Cut your nails to a very short length, prior to removal, as short nails are easier to remove.

Step 3
Take a bowl and fill it with a nail polish remover. Soak your nails in the liquid for about ten to fifteen minutes. Soaking the nails in the nail polish remover helps in dissolving the glue which binds the fake nails to the natural nails.

Step 4
Once you see that the glue has come out, take out your fingers from the bowl. Now, taking one nail at a time, peel off the fake acrylic nail from the finger. Repeat the same process on all the fingers.

Step 5
Soaking the nails in nail polish remover for fifteen minutes is enough to dissolve the glue, however, it may happen that the nail does not come out easily when you are trying to peel it and may even cause you pain. So, I would suggest soaking the nails in the nail polish remover for some more time, say about five minutes, and then try peeling it again.

Step 6
After all the fake acrylic nails have been removed, wash your hands thoroughly using a soap. As the nail polish remover contains acetone, it can cause dryness on the fingers. So applying a moisturizer or a hand cream is very essential to prevent the skin from drying out further.

Taking off Fake Nails without Acetone
It is a known fact that long-term usage of acetone can make the nails very weak. So in order to avoid that, instead of soaking the nails in a nail polish remover which contains acetone, you can switch over to dipping nails in alcohol instead. Alcohol can be equally effective in dissolving the nail glue. The only drawback is that the nails have to be soaked for about half an hour to forty-five minutes, for alcohol to be truly effective.

Another alternative to nail polish remover is hot water. Soaking the nails in hot water does help in removing fake nails. But it's not as effective as alcohol or nail polish remover. These days, there are many nail polish removers available in the market which are labeled acetone free. You may try using them too.

I would suggest that you get your fake nails removed at the salon itself by a professional, to get better results. But if you have made up your mind to do it at home, the above mentioned tips will be quite handy!
