How to Remove Candle Wax from Carpets
Candle wax can ruin your precious carpet if not cleaned on time. Here are a few tips on how to remove candle wax from carpets.
How to Remove Candle Wax from Carpets
To remove candle wax from carpets, all you'll need is a pack of paper napkins and a cloth iron. Firstly, scrape off any excess wax on the carpet with the help of a blunt knife. Then plug-in the iron and adjust the warm setting for 'delicates'. Cover the wax stain with a couple of layers of napkins. When the iron is warm enough, press it on the napkins, so as to melt the wax underneath. This melted wax will be absorbed in the layers of paper napkins. You'll notice that most of the wax has gone off. Instead of paper napkins, you can also use a paper bag or a washcloth or a towel. Whatever you use, just make sure it has a good absorbing capacity. Moreover, be careful about the setting of the iron. Do not exceed the temperature any more than warm and also put off the setting for steam. The color of synthetic fibers fades away if the iron is hot.
The residue that is left after the clearing of wax can be removed with the help of a home cleaning solvent or an alcohol based carpet stain removal agent. You can also wash it off with the help of a mild detergent, but be careful about the carpet fabric. Some fabrics fade away when they come in contact with water.
How to Protect Your carpet From Candle Wax
- Always buy good quality candles which only have basic ingredients like paraffin wax, stearic acid and coloring and smelling agents. Stearic acid helps to burn the wax away, thereby reducing the amount of wax dripping.
- Always place the candle on the candle holder and make sure it is big enough to contain all the dripped wax, so that there are no spillovers.
- Never blow out the candle, always use a snuffer to blow them out. In case, you don't have a snuffer, put a juice glass over the candle to extinguish it.
- Do not remove the candle from it's place immediately after putting it off. Wait until all the wax has solidified.
- Do not light the candles near windows, fans or heat vents.
- If you make your own candles at home, then you are likely to spill the wax on the carpet, hence always cover the carpet with old newspapers, before you proceed.
