Stress-Relieving Tips

Our workplace can be attributed as an atom inside which there are several kinds of stress revolving around the nucleus of our work. In simple words, where there is smoke there is fire, and where there is work, there is stress. To be honest, stress is one of those elements in our life which help us to prepare ourselves to counter challenges and overcome them with success. From my personal experience, stress has actually made my life more successful and worth living. This is because, it is stress that keeps reminding me about my responsibilities and it is this very element that fuels my productivity. Considering this scenario, stress is a normal part of our life. But, when this very stress takes on a humongous and nasty shape, it rips us apart from our emotional and physical health. This is where you need to inculcate certain practices to relieve stress and make your work more productive and less annoying.

Aerobic exercises are one of the most effective ways to keep your body relaxed thus, reducing stress. They not only help in uplifting the mood, but help in increasing energy and improving focus, as well. Give yourself at least 30 minutes of workout everyday. Even brisk walking or jogging helps.

Doing away with those three traditional meals a day is equally important. Start having small but frequent meals throughout the day. This habit helps in regulating the blood sugar levels in the body thus, keeping you active and less anxious. Also, inculcate the habit of eating your food slowly and chewing every pieces of it. Gulping down large amounts of food contributes towards making you feel lethargic and sleepy. And when your body tries to fight the urge of sleep, it would naturally get stressed. Also, never stand and eat. Give yourself ample amount of time!

Taking out the third most important aspect on de-stressing at work, it is a complete myth that getting some smokes help in alleviating stress. Smoking, or drinking for that matter, instead of reducing stress, stimulate it. Initially, you may feel distressed when you are drinking or smoking, but with time, you are increasing the stress levels your body is already going through. So drink alcohol moderately and shun smoking. Try this for a week and you would notice the difference.

Sleep deprivation is one of the many reasons which fuel stress in working people. After working for the whole day, your body demands complete rest for the night, so that it can take the load of work the next day. But if you do not get enough sleep, then all your efforts to reduce your stress go in vain. So, try sleeping and getting up early. It is best if you can keep a fixed time of sleeping and waking up. This helps the body to relax easily thus, reducing stress by a noticeable degree. Getting 9 hours of sound sleep everyday is also an unbeatable stress reliever.

The tips cited above can be attributed as some lifestyle changes which do come in handy in the long run. The below segment deals with some more tips that might come in handy in immediate circumstances.
  • When stressed, take deep breaths. Allow your rib cage to expand gradually and exhale slowly.
  • Take a small break to get out of your workstation and have a stroll in the lobby or may be outside, if your workplace is on the ground floor.
  • Google some jokes to read and laugh on. Laughing in one free medicine to deal with stress. But do not get used to it, or else, your boss would be stressed about you!
  • Have a chit-chat with your colleagues. Talk about topics other than work. But it may not be a good idea if he is busy working. So, go for someone you know better!

Stress, as I said, is a normal and an inevitable part of life. We can never hide from it. It is a kind of worry which we have for the well-being of our family, or may be about our future. When the body is physically stressed, there are innumerable ways to cope with it, like those which I have described above. But when it comes to the emotional aspect, all we can attempt is to find out the cause of the stress and addressing it. Running away from our troubles, worries or responsibilities, would not help us fight with our stress, but only encourage it to get nastier. Cheers!
