How to Put on Eyeliner
Many women find it difficult to apply eyeliner. If you are one of them and are looking to learn how to put on eyeliner then read on...

Eyeliners are available in different forms including pencil eyeliner, liquid eyeliner and cake eyeliner. Generally, beginners prefer to use the pencil eyeliner as it easy to apply. A pencil eyeliner is great for a day look, the liquid eyeliners are the best choice for an evening or formal look as they create a dramatic look. Though many feel that liquid eyeliners are not easy to apply with a little bit of practice they are very easy to put on. Especially since asian eyes are usually small, many can often find it difficult to apply liquid eyeliner. To answer the question how to apply eyeliner for asian eyes, remember to use a pencil eyeliner preferably and to keep the eyeliner thick. Besides the kind of eyeliner, there are also different colors of eyeliners available. Most of us tend to opt for black eyeliners. However makeup experts believe that the black eyeliner does not suit all skin tones. The color of the eyeliner should depend on the eye color and the skin tone. For evening looks the best colors are vibrant shades of purple, red, orange or green.
How to Apply Eyeliner
Apply the base and eyeshadow before you apply the eyeliner. Make sure you have a good mirror and lighting, so that you can properly see what you are doing when using the eyeliner.
Pencil Eyeliner
- The eyeliner pencil should be able to draw a thin, unbroken line along your skin - test it on your hand or arm first. Either sharpen it until the line is thin enough, or if it is too thin, draw a line on a tissue, which will make the tip blunt.
- You should hold the eyeliner pencil as you would hold a pencil or pen to write with, usually with your dominant hand. Use your other hand to stretch the eye you are going to line from the outer corner. You can rest your hand holding the pencil against the hand pulling your lid taut.
- Don't try to focus on your whole eyelid at one time - just look at the part you are drawing on. The line should be just above your eyelashes on the top lid and just below on the bottom, and should extend just to the outer corner of your eye.
- Be wary if your eyeliner pencil tip is quite dry, as this may pull at delicate eye tissues. Draw the line with care if this is the case.
- Liquid eyeliner comes in a bottle rather like ink, and you must use a separate brush to apply. The best result will come from a point liner brush.
- It is natural to close your eye as you draw the line, but if you keep it open, it will actually make it easier to follow the curve of your lid and thus have a straighter line.
- You do not need trying and painting a continuous line with liquid eyeliner. It is actually easier to paint a few small dashes onto the lash line, for example, inner corner, middle and outer corner, then go back and connect them.
- If you want a thicker line than this initial thin one, build it up gradually. Start at the middle of the lash line and draw towards the outer corner. You can extend the line slightly past the outer corner of your eyelid if you wish.
- Once you are done with the upper eyelid, the next step will be to apply eyeliner on the lower eyelid. Though there are people who use the liquid eyeliner for the bottom eyelid, the best option is to use the pencil eyeliner.
- The eyeliner can be applied on the eyelids or on the rim. Begin from the outer end of the eyes and then move closer to the nose.
- You can either cover the entire lower eyelid with eyeliner or just the outer two-thirds of the eye, depending on the look you want to achieve.
