The following tips on How to plant a flower garden come from many years of planting the best garden in the neighborhood. I do it for my own personal enjoyment. The neighbors are always wondering why my flowers a bigger and better than theirs. Follow my series of articles and you too can have the best flower garden on the block.

I have learned to work smarter as I have aged. I have tried to figure out better ways to get the garden I adore with the least amount of work and effort.

First you must decide where to put your flower garden. Most flowers do require a sunny spot so pick a location in your yard where the plants will receive as much sun as possible.

Once you have picked the location you will need to clear the area of all weeds and grass. If you don’t have any of those naturally in the area it will not grow plants. This used to be where the hard work began, no longer necessary. You can use either one of the methods below will little or hardly any effort. The best part is that no shovel is required.

The Easy Way to Get A Clear Area to Plant a Flower Garden

The first method is a solar burn. You can use the power of the sun to kill off the existing vegetation and kill any weed seeds that are on the surface of the soil. This method is highly effective.

You get a sheet of heavy mil clear plastic cut or fold it to size of area you want to burn. Mow the weeds and grass down with a lawn mower or edger. I use my mulching lawn mower and leave the clippings in place the sun will kill any seed on the surface of the soil.

Place the sheet of plastic over the area you have just mowed, securing it with weed fabric hold downs or rocks. Leave in place for two weeks and like magic your garden spot is ready to plant. Over this time the foliage underneath will die and decompose. Remove the plastic and plant with plants.

You can accomplish the same thing with newspaper using ten sheets and fabric clamps. in the same area and waiting two weeks to plant. I recommend removing the clippings before placing the newspaper in the area. Wait two weeks leave the newspaper in place it will decompose, cut holes in the newspaper to place the plants. After planting the area place mulch around the plants and you have the beginnings of a beautiful garden. Fertilize once a month with Sea Kelp fertilizer and set back and watch the flowers grow.
