Materials Required

- Painter's tape
- Paint
- Paint brush
- Angled paint brush (3 inch)
- Plastic cup (medium size)
- Paint roller
- Roller tray
- Roller covers
- Fine grit sandpaper
- Joint compound
- Primer (if required)
- Ladder
Prepare the Wall
Maximum time is spent in making the preparations. Covering the room and preparing the wall will take most of the time. Remove the wall decor and make the entire wall empty. If there are any nails and hooks, take them off if you will not be using them to hang anything later. Once the wall is empty start by sanding it with a fine-grit sandpaper. Once sanded take the joint compound and fill up the holes and cracks (if required). Check the condition of the wall to be painted. Apply a coat of primer. If the previous color was darker this step will be helpful in covering the same and giving you a plain and neutral colored surface to work upon.
Gather the Tools
Now that the wall is ready, cover the floor surface with plastic sheets and painter tape. Also cover the border of the wall. Also, mask off the top and bottom border of this wall, so that the paint does not spread over the ceiling or skirting. Now take the brush and roller. The lint over new roller needs to be removed. To do this rub it over the sticky side of painters tape. Now take the paint of desired color. Wall paint colors come in various types. You can consult the shopkeeper to find out various qualities and pick the best one for your needs and budget. And, you might have decided the interior painting colors. Make sure you pick the right color combination for dual-colored walls.
Get Started
Start painting from the top most border of the wall. Stir the paint and take some quantity in a separate plastic box. Just dip half length of bristles in paint color and hold the brush horizontal and parallel to the ceiling edge. Move horizontally, side to side and cover the entire top border. Re-dip the brush in paint as required. For the vertical borders, hold the brush upright and move it from top to bottom. Once broad paint stripes cover the borders, you can start painting the center area. As soon as you brush an area, move the roller over it before you re-dip the brush. Roller must be dipped in a roller tray full of color if you want to skip the use of brush. Move the roller from the top to bottom direction.
More than Coloring
One of the best tricks is to opt for faux painting and have textured wall. Faux painting techniques like ragging, sponging, combing can be the best ones to opt for. With these you can impart a dramatic look to the focal walls.
So what are you waiting for? Get the tools, prepare the area, pick the right shades, and brush the strokes.
