Packing a suitcase is quite a strategic activity. One needs to know the right techniques of packing to avoid crimping and creases of the garments. While packing a suitcase, one must keep in mind the destination and the weather and accordingly pack the suitcase. Before undertaking the task of packing, plan the duration of your journey and accordingly choose the right suitcase for it. Every traveler's idea of taking a vacation is different, which could be either an adventure trip, visiting different places to know about people and their culture or it could be just a weekend getaway with family or friends. So, it is important to choose the appropriate luggage for the vacation as you would probably not want to carry a suitcase for an adventure trip. The next important step towards packing is to know what to pack for a vacation as that helps you to plan your packing.

The objective of packing is to keep the garments as tidy as possible and to carry appropriate items. It is essential to have a clear picture of what items one wants to carry even if you are a light traveler or a traveler who tends to stock almost everything. So, let's learn the knack and overcome the problem of packing and master the skill by using these few techniques of packing a suitcase.

Choosing the Suitcase
Once you have planned your journey or decided the location that you want to visit, select a suitable suitcase for traveling. The use of suitcases and luggage depend on the type of vacation and its duration. Therefore, considering the duration of the trip we must wisely choose the suitcase. If you are going on a 2 week vacation then a big suitcase would be appropriate to carry. However, if your trip includes some adventure then carrying a haversack bag will be useful, since it keeps your hands free, making your trip more comfortable. This bag is particularly used for 1 or 2 day trips like mountaineering or trekking. It is wise to choose a hard and strong rucksack for adventure trips to avoid any disasters. Always keep in mind the quality of your suitcase while purchasing one. If the suitcase's quality is good then it can last well for many years no matter how rough its usage is.

Making a List
Once you have your suitcase ready, list out all the important clothes and non-clothing items that you want to carry with you. While making the packing list, keep in mind the location, purpose of visiting the location and the weather. In case of cold weather, you might want to carry some warm clothes rather than light clothes. Making the list of all the appropriate garments and items helps you remember the things you want to carry with you.

Lay Out All the Things
After jotting down the things you want to take with you, lay them on the bed. Scrutinize all the items and see if you have forgotten anything. In case you have, refer to your list.

Folding Garments
Now, we come to the most strategic step in packing. Folding clothes is a boring and tedious activity that everyone wants to escape from. Stop running away from it or asking someone else to do it! Our garments are flexible and therefore can be wrapped in many ways. Rolling and folding are two simple ways of stacking the garments. Denims, cotton pants and T-shirts do not get wrinkled and can be rolled tightly. All the rolled clothes can be placed at the bottom of the suitcase. Fold the shirts, dresses and skirts and place them on top of the rolled clothes and voila! You have cleared this step.

Using the Left Over Space
The suitcase has lot of space and rolling up the clothes saves even more space. To avoid any movement of clothes while carrying the bag, stuff up the empty space with other garments like socks, stockings, napkins and lingerie or items like a magazine, iPod or headphones.

Packing Toiletries
It's always wise to pack the toiletries in a plastic bag. Toiletries make your suitcase heavy and occupy space too. Choose only the appropriate items regarding toiletries. In case you have forgotten to bring a toothpaste or a toothbrush, it could also be purchased at the location.

Packing Shoes
Always carry proper shoes that can suit the clothes that you carry. Avoid carrying too many shoes to match your garments. It will only make your bag heavy. The most suitable pair of shoes that a traveler can carry are a pair of sandals and sneakers.

Packing Valuables
These are the most important things that you probably don't want to lose. Your ticket, money, a few accessories or passport are the most essential things that you have to carry with you. All these valuables can be packed in the inside pockets of the bag so that they stay safe.

Now stop worrying so much about suitcase packing as you can use the above given tips to make your packing hassle free. These techniques are a great way of keeping your items organized and save you from any fuss later.
