One can plan about how to organize the clutter at first and then sort the different items. Cleaning could be done either by taking a room-by-room approach or the mess could be piled up and then sorted in a separate room. Boxes could be used to stuff the items randomly and then sorted afterward.
Keys: The keys could be kept properly in bowls or key hangers. Besides being neat and organized, It also reduces the chances of losing them.
Clothes: We have a lot of clothes that are old and never used, but they just lie around with us for no reason. These old clothes could be donated to local charity organizations. A special donation bag can be created for the same.
Magazines: Once you finish reading a magazine, chances are that it won't be referred to again. It is better to donate such magazines to local libraries instead of piling it up in the house for no reason.
One can make shelves to place different items in an orderly manner. These shelves could hold decorative boxes and baskets which act as storage bins. Sorters, cork boxes and many such containers would actually add fun to the activity of clutter organization.
How to Organize Paper Clutter?
Organizing paper clutter is the most tedious and difficult of all the tasks. Office or home paper organization requires a lot of planning, sorting and organized efforts to reduce the mess created by papers. Papers can be sorted by categories such as 'to be read', 'to give away', 'bills', 'to be filed', 'unsure' and 'dated information'.
To be Read
The 'to be read' category includes papers that one needs to refer to quite frequently. The different types of papers one can place in this category or folder could be credit card offers, club newsletters, church bulletins, car insurance quotes, etc. One can take the folder along with him while traveling and read through the contents.
To Give Away
This folder should be filled with papers that one needs to share with others. The different types of papers that one can include in this category are notes, recipes, articles, etc. It becomes easy to dispose off the papers as per the need, if they are stored in this folder.
Bills
This folder should be used only for those bills that are yet to be paid. The old bills or the one's that are paid should go in the 'to be filed' category.
To be Filed
Pay stubs, old bills, medical receipts, and many such papers are included in this category. School records, papers related to taxes can also be stored in this category.
Unsure
This folder contains papers that one is not sure about whether to throw or retain. One can store papers in this file temporarily. One can throw away the trash after a month or two.
Dated Information
Car maintenance schedules, school field trip information, school finals schedules and many such items which have expiration dates or deadlines can be stored in this folder.
Organizing clutter eventually makes the other tasks of house cleaning much easier. Proper planning and management makes the task of sorting the clutter an organized activity.
