Narcissist is constantly seeking for admiration and appreciation. When narcissist believes you are providing these sources of narcissistic supply, narcissist wants to keep you close and is most likely treating you well until narcissist either starts to get bored or finds another provider of narcissistic supply. This is the point when the behavior of narcissist changes. Narcissist may become rude, cold and uncaring. However, if narcissist has not yet identified the next provider of narcissistic supply, narcissist will try to keep you available until the next source of narcissistic supply surfaces.

Narcissist thinks he or she is holding the leash, but you know better. Even tho your words of admiration and praise would be totally transparent to an independent observer, narcissist is buying it all with wide smile on his or her face.

In this aspect narcissists are like small children. Since narcissists see themselves as omnipotent, supreme beings, a possibility that your admiration might be false is ignored long before the thought reaches the consciousness of narcissist. The instincts of narcissist are not sensitive enough to recognize an act when it comes to narcissistic supplies.
