How to Make Your Own Washer Game

Homemade washer games are fun. All that is required is some trivial raw materials and oodles of enthusiasm from your side. Don’t you wait anymore then – go make your weekends fun.
The game of pitching washers must have been played by you many a time at some point and you may touch up the same game with a little novel thought and prepare your own set. Fun begins at home, so make homemade washers the source of your entertainment.

The washer game involves 2 or 4 players who compete over aiming washers into holes. Unlike the bean bag toss games, the rules here are slightly different. The first dilemma is choosing between digging holes or building washer boxes. While digging holes is an easy and hassle free job, holes are not portable while the washer boxes are. Now that you resolve this, the next issue is to get on with the job. Hole-digging is not going to make hunt much for raw materials. But washer boxes would necessarily require some. Four boards and screws would be needed to prepare the square box. A plywood piece would be required to make the bottom. The box, at the end should have the vital statistics of 14" x 16" x 2-4".

Join the sides of the square with glue or wood joints to make the box stable enough. Next, get two pieces of PVC pipes of 4-inch diameter each. Cut the pipes and place it inside the box with top of the pipe level with the top of the box. Fill the box with dirt to provide the pipe with enough support from all the side to hold still. Place these boxes at a distance of 20 feet from each other when playing. The game is just as much fun as bean bag toss games if you have ever tried it out.

If you are interested in making the pitching washers game in your own backyard, you may do so by digging the required holes at the required positions and insert pipes in them. Take care that the pipe does not go in too deep or sticks out - it must be at par with the ground. This ensures smooth play and hinders not the movement in the ground. Usually, there is a half inch difference between the radii of the washers and the holes, but these sizes are quite variable. 3 ½ inches radius is preferred and these washers usually come in sets of 8. Even if your washer boxes are not exactly matching with the specified size, you need not hit the panic button. Here you go then! Your homemade washer game is all ready.

The next logical step would be to know properly the rules and regulations of the game, if not known already. We require 8 washers of equal sizes, 2 washer boxes or two holes in the ground for the game of pitching washers to begin. 4 washers are of one color and the other 4 of a different color to ensure that opposing teams’ washers are not mixed. The game may be played singly or in doubles. Only 2 people may utilize same washer box. In doubles’ play, two washer boxes or boards are needed - they are placed at opposite ends. Each player or team throws 4 washers per round. A washer landing inside the cup earns 3 points. A washer that ends up atop the box but not into the cup is worth 1 point while a washer that does not touch the box is worth nothing.

Similar to bean bag toss games, sometimes players throw the washer alternately in the different variations of the original game. After each round, the lower total is deducted from the higher one and thus the winning team or player’s lead is calculated which is the actual score. The rounds continue till one team or player reaches 21 points and goes on to win the game. Now don’t you wait anymore - make your own washers game and have oodles of fun.
