How to Make your Own Birth Announcements?
Want to make your own birth announcements? This creative homemade birth announcement is perfect for sharing the news about the newest addition to your line! Follow these steps to test drive one of your own.
  • Start by determining the primary color that you’d like to work with. This sample is in red, but you can make your card with a pink or blue background for your baby girl or boy. Alternatively, select a patterned background that will be an engaging match to the color of the car. Green and blue stripes will pair nicely with a blue car for a boy, or select pink and red polka dots as a backdrop for a pink car to announce your little girl.
  • Trim the background piece into a 5" x 7" rectangle. You can opt for a smaller 4" x 6" if you’d like, but it may make your birth announcement look a bit crowded unless you choose to leave out some of the accessory information.
  • Trim a white rectangle for the announcement that measures 4" x 6" (for a 5" x 7" card). Check to make sure that it centers nicely over your background piece.
  • The next step is to add the text. If you are familiar with your printer, you may be able to print it all directly onto the announcement. If not, you have two options. One is to write the words on there yourself. The second is to print the text onto an additional sheet of paper and cut the lines out to attach to the card.
  • The following lines are featured on the card:

    Center
    (Father) and (Mother)
Proudly announce the arrival of their (year) model
    (Baby’s Name)
    Launched on (birth date)
    MSRP (delivered) … priceless
Available for test drives at (home address)

    Left Side Text
    Upholstery (hair color), thick, plush
    Maintenance cost: very high
Fuel capacity: 2 oz. every few hours

    Bottom Text
    Lights: (eye color)
    Wheel base: (baby’s length)
    Chassis Weight: (baby’s birth weight)

    Right Side Text
    Tires: 2x5-toed
    Seats: Well-padded
    Exhaust: Frequent
    Accessories: Nude, ready for customization
  • Before printing each section, make sure that the font is sized properly so the line will fit on the card. Once you print it to the proper size, trim it into a thin strip and use scrapbook glue to position it in place. If you choose to make your own birth announcements in your handwriting, first write the line out on a second piece of paper so you’ll know how small your writing needs to be so the words fit correctly. Alternatively, write the lines out on a separate sheet of paper and cut them out as you would the printed text.
  • One you’ve arranged the wording, the next step is to add the car. First measure the amount of space left on the invitation to get an approximate size for the vehicle.
  • Next, sketch the car shape onto a piece of scrap paper, adjusting it until you’re happy with the shape. Use the photo as a template, or design your own.
  • Trace the form onto the color of card stock that you’ve designated for the car. Cut it out and place it on the card.
  • Trim two yellow circles for headlights and then add two gently rounded rectangles for tires. Glue them in place.
  • The final step is to create the license plate. Make your own birth announcements with the image of your own state’s plates. Begin with a proportionate rectangle that fits between the headlights. Use a fine-tipped marker to draw details on the plate. The focal point is, of course, your new baby’s name featured in license plate lingo, so have fun with it! Once you’ve finished the license plate, glue it in place.
  • Finally, allow the invitation to dry completely before tucking it into an envelope to mail.
This homemade birth announcement is delightfully original! With so many ways to make it your own, it’ll be as unique as your baby … and you’ll be almost as proud to show it off!
