How to Make White Rice on the Stove: Even white rice comes in different types and the long grain type is one of the commonly used one. In order to cook white rice on the stove, you need a heavy pan with lid, water and rice. If you take one cup of rice, two cups of water will be needed for cooking. In other words, the amount of water should be double that of the rice. Boil the water in the pan. Rinse the rice thoroughly and add to the boiling water. You may also add a tablespoon of butter and half teaspoon of salt to the pan. While, salt prevents the rice from getting sticky, butter enhances the taste. However, both are optional only. Simmer the stove, stir and close the lid, once the water starts boiling again.

Usually, it takes around 15 to 20 minutes for the rice to cook properly. The rice has to be cooked well, as the water gets absorbed completely. Remove the lid and check the rice, a few minutes before the stipulated time. If the water has been absorbed completely, you can turn off the stove. Continue cooking for a few minutes, if there is water remaining in the bottom of the pan. One cup of raw rice will yield three cups of cooked rice.
