How to Make Soap on a Rope

Making soap on a rope from scratch is a fun and creative way of having your very own soap, without letting it sit in a puddle once you're done using it...
There are many companies that distribute soaps on ropes as a way of not allowing soap to stand in water, making it slippery and moist every time you reach for it. It's a smart way of having to hang up your soap on a hook nearby to keep it mildew free, and easy to use and replace once you're done with it. Making this is fairly simple, if you want to try out something new and interesting when it comes to making one of these at home.

Things You'll Require
  • Nylon cord
  • Two bars of plain soap (not deodorant soaps or beauty bars)
  • 1 vial of perfumed oil
  • Liquid food coloring of your choice (2 colors)
  • Glass bowl
  • 1 large pot
  • Grater
  • Water
  • Large mold of your choice (you could have interesting mold patterns like animals, flowers, alphabets, shapes and so on)
Instructions

Take an ordinary coffee mug and grate into this a cup full of the soap, using the grater to fill it up with its flakes. Then transfer the contents of the mug into the glass bowl, and add to this half a cup of water. Place this bowl within the big pot and then fill it up with water where the bowl should be halfway submerged in it. Once on the gas, keep the flame on medium and gently stir your water and soap flakes mix until it melts and turns into a consistent paste within the glass bowl. Take it off the gas once it has completely melted and taken on a smooth textured paste. Add to this your 15 drops of perfumed oil and half a teaspoon each of the food colors you've picked out. Mix it up nicely and then take your desired mold shape to pour into this your soap mix.

Knot the nylon cord on one end depending on how wide you want your loop to be and then place this midway into your mold shape with the loop end away from the mold's mouth and the knot at its center. Pour into this your soap mix making sure the cord doesn't shift, and then gently pat down into it your soap paste. Scrape away gently the ends of your mold to get neat edges off your soap. Keep this aside in a dry area, and let it set for at least a week before you start using it. Voila! Your soap on a rope is complete.

Avoid using anything alcohol-based when wanting to add a scent to your soap, since it can dry out your skin and not really benefit you upon use. Use perfumed oils instead since this is a much healthier option for your skin, and use colors to make your soaps catchy and eye-pleasing. To enhance colors of your soap molds, add in more color with a darker tone, or look up a color chart with color blends to know which two color combination can bring out another color. That way you'd be making your very own commercial looking soaps.
