How to Make Money from Your Ezine or Newsletter

If you have ever run your own email-based newsletter you will know just how lucrative it can be. However if you're just starting out in the whole area of email marketing let me discuss the various different ways you can monetize your ezine/newsletter.

The first monetization method is simply to sell advertising space. This is more suitable for conventional ezines because you can sell ads at the top or bottom of your email messages, but to generate greater profits you may also elect to sell entire solo ads (where advertisers can promote their products or services in a whole email message).

Secondly you can either sell your own products or promote other people's products as an affiliate. This is what myself and a lot of other email marketers do and it can be very rewarding financially. You just have to make sure you provide some decent content as well otherwise you will see a lot of people unsubscribe from your list.

You can also use your list as a way of directing traffic to your website or blog. For instance you may have a new blog post which includes Adsense ads or an affiliate link or two, for example. Therefore sending a quick email to your list letting them know about this new post is a great way of sending traffic to this particular page.

Another way to monetize your newsletter is to promote free membership sites to your list. These sites generally have an opportunity to earn backend commissions further down the line, so although it looks like you are promoting a very good free membership site, you can also earn some easy money in the process.

Finally you can use your list to research your own particular market. For instance if you have built up a good level of trust with your subscribers and are thinking about launching a product to sell to your list, then you can specifically ask them what kind of product they would like you to create.

So overall there are lots of ways you can monetize your ezine or newsletter. Email marketing is actually very easy but in order to generate decent profits you do of course need to build up a solid relationship with your list. If you treat your subscribers well then you will see high open rates and therefore high response rates, which should hopefully result in substantial profits in the years to come.
