Well, in comes the Italian soda! Possibly one of the yummiest soft drinks ever created, an Italian soda is quite easy to make. Basically, the drink is made with carbonated water and simple syrup. However, a lot of people like to add flavors to it as well. Now you can choose to either include a store-bought syrup, or make your own syrup. Click on the names of these popular sodas to know their recipes.


Ginger Ale Italian Soda

Ginger Ale Italian Soda
Ingredients
  • Water, 2 cups
  • White sugar, 1 cup
  • Brown sugar, 1 cup
  • Cardamom pods, 2 tsp.
  • Whole allspice, 1 tsp.
  • Peppercorns, 1 tsp.
  • Sparkling water, 8 oz.
  • Ginger, peeled and sliced, 4 oz.
  • Star anise pods, 3
  • Peach, peeled and sliced, 1
  • Ice cubes

Directions for Syrup
  • Take a small pot to combine white sugar, brown sugar, water, and ginger.
  • In a sauté pan, toast the whole spices till they become fragrant and turn slightly brown.
  • Add the whole spices to the pot, and bring the ingredients to a simmer.
  • Let the mixture simmer for at least 15 minutes, and then take the pot off the stove.
  • Keep the pot aside and let the mixture steep until it comes down to room temperature.
  • Use a stainless steel strainer to strain the syrup in a clean container.
Directions for Drink

To prepare the Ginger Ale Italian Soda, add sliced peach and ice cubes in a Pilsner glass. Pour the syrup and sparkling water on top. Stir well before serving.


Grapefruit Italian Soda

Grapefruit Italian Soda
Ingredients
  • Water, 2 cups
  • White sugar, 2 cups
  • Lemon juice, 2 tsp.
  • Grapefruit zest, 2
  • Grapefruit juice, 1
  • Salt, a pinch
  • Sparkling water, 8 oz.
  • Lemon slices, garnish
  • Ice cubes

Directions for Syrup
  • In a pan, combine white sugar, grapefruit juice, lemon juice, zest, water, and salt together.
  • Turn the heat on and keep it over medium-high heat; bring the mixture to a boil.
  • Remove the pan off the heat, and set it aside to steep for at least an hour.
  • Use a stainless steel strainer to store the syrup in a clean container.

To prepare the Grapefruit Italian Soda, add ice cubes in a pint glass. Pour the syrup and sparkling water on top. Stir the ingredients properly, and garnish with lemon slices before serving.


Spiced Orange Italian Soda

Spiced Orange Italian Soda
Ingredients
  • Cornstarch, 2 tsp.
  • Sparkling water, 8 oz.
  • Orange juice, 6 oz.
  • Vanilla extract, 2 oz.
  • Light corn syrup, 2 oz.
  • Light brown sugar, 2 oz.
  • Cinnamon, ground, a pinch
  • Salt, a pinch
  • Ice cubes
  • Lemon wedges, garnish

Directions for Syrup
  • In a pan, combine orange juice, corn syrup, light brown sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, and salt together.
  • Keep the heat over medium-low and bring the ingredients to a boil, stirring occasionally.
  • Remove the pan off the heat, and keep it aside to cool down.
  • Once at room temperature, add the vanilla extract in and stir well.

To prepare the Spiced Orange Italian Soda, add ice cubes and lemon wedges in a collins glass. Pour the syrup and sparkling water on top. Stir the ingredients properly and serve immediately.


Lemon-mint Italian Soda

Lemon-mint Italian Soda
Ingredients
  • Water, 1 cup
  • White sugar, 1 cup
  • Sparkling water, 8 oz.
  • Mint leaves, 5
  • Lemon juice, 2
  • Ice cubes
  • Lemon wedges, garnish
  • Mint sprigs, garnish

Directions for Syrup
  • In a pot, heat water till it starts to steam, and not boil.
  • Pour the sugar in and stir it until it dissolves completely.
  • Remove the pot off the stove, and add lemon juice and mint leaves.
  • Let it steep until the syrup cools down completely.
  • Use a stainless steel strainer to store the syrup in a clean container.

To prepare the Lemon-mint Italian Soda, add ice cubes and lemon wedges in a Chardonnay glass. Pour the syrup and sparkling water on top. Stir the ingredients properly, garnish with mint sprigs, and serve immediately.


Raspberry Italian Soda

Raspberry Italian Soda
Ingredients
  • Raspberries, 6 cups
  • Sparkling water, 8 oz.
  • White sugar, 6 oz.
  • Water, 4 oz.
  • Ice cubes
  • Raspberries, garnish
  • Lemon slices, garnish

Directions for Syrup
  • In a pan, combine 6 cups raspberries, white sugar, and water.
  • Turn the heat on medium-high, and bring the ingredients to a boil.
  • Keep stirring the mixture occasionally till the raspberries break down and release the juice.
  • Remove the pan off the heat, and keep the syrup aside for at least 15―20 minutes.
  • Use a stainless steel strainer and press the syrup through it to get as much liquid as possible.
  • Store the syrup in a clean container.

To prepare the Raspberry Italian Soda, add ice cubes and fresh raspberries in a highball glass. Pour the syrup and sparkling water on top. Stir the ingredients properly, garnish with lemon slices, and serve immediately.


Spiced Chai Italian Soda

Spiced Chai Italian Soda
Ingredients
  • Water, 1 cup
  • White sugar, 1 cup
  • Sparkling water, 8 oz.
  • Whole cloves, ½ tsp.
  • Peppercorns, ¼ tsp.
  • Orange peel, 12" piece
  • Cardamom pods, 4
  • Black tea bags, 3
  • Star anise pods, 2
  • Cinnamon sticks, 2
  • Ice cubes
  • Orange slices, garnish

Directions for Syrup
  • In a pot, heat water till it starts to steam, and not boil.
  • Pour the sugar in and stir it until it dissolves completely.
  • Remove the pot off the heat, add the tea bags, orange peel, and the spices in to steep for at least 20 minutes.
  • Remove the tea bags, and strain the syrup with a stainless steel strainer.
  • Store the syrup in a clean container.

To prepare the Spiced Chai Italian Soda, add ice cubes and orange wedges in a collins glass. Pour the syrup and sparkling water on top. Stir the ingredients properly and serve immediately.


Blood Orange Italian Soda

Blood Orange Italian Soda
Ingredients
  • Water, 1 cup
  • White sugar, 1 cup
  • Sparkling water, 8 oz.
  • Blood orange juice, 2
  • Blood orange zest, 2
  • Ice cubes
  • Lemon and orange slices, garnish

Directions for Syrup
  • In a pan, combine water, sugar, blood orange juice, and zest together.
  • Bring the ingredients to a boil over medium-low heat as you stir occasionally.
  • Once the sugar dissolves, remove the pan off the heat, and set it aside till it cools down completely.
  • Use a stainless steel strainer to store the syrup in a clean container.

To prepare the Blood Orange Italian Soda, add ice cubes in a whiskey tumbler. Pour the syrup and sparkling water on top. Stir the ingredients properly, garnish with lemon and orange slices, and serve immediately.

Tip: If you are not using the syrup the very same day, transfer the syrup in a clean container and store it in the refrigerator for later. The syrup will stay good for at least 2 weeks.
