Did You Know?
You can find Borax or Sodium Borate in any supermarket, in the aisle where they sell the laundry supplies.

Kids like to do a lot of fun stuff in groups. Making gooey slime is one of them. And if the slime glows, it is even more fun, because then they can fling that stuff at each other in the dark. The slime that will be prepared by the following recipe does not stick to your hands, and thus, can be played with and flung with equal pleasure!

The activity can be done when your friends come over to play. The recipe is fairly simple, and can be easily understood even by toddlers. Since the method is so simple, this can be done as an enjoyable craft activity too.

Caution: Borax is considered to be toxic. Readers are advised to wash their hands thoroughly after making and/or playing with the slime.

thick brush glow paint

spatula food color

Plastic spatula, 1 or a thick brush
Food color, green, 1 bottle.

INSTRUCTIONS

Glue Solution
  1. Empty the contents of the glue bottle in one of the plastic bowls.
  2. Put some of the warm water into the glue bottle to get the rest of the glue out too.
  3. Add ½ cup of warm water to the glue in the bowl.
  4. Mix it with the spatula until it gets the right consistency.
  5. Add 2 tablespoons of the food color into the glue, and mix well.
  6. Add three tablespoons of the glow-in-the-dark paint to the glue mixture, and stir well.

Borax Solution
  1. Add two tablespoons of borax powder to the other plastic bowl.
  2. Add a cup of warm water and stir it to dissolve the powder.
  3. The water should be mixed until you get a clear solution.

The Slime
  1. Add one teaspoon of the borax solution to the glue mixture.

The more borax solution you add to the slime, the thicker it gets. Keep in mind that you DO NOT add the bowl full of borax solution to the glue mixture. Doing this will make the mixture almost solid. If you want the slime to be runny, add just one tablespoon.

The solution will glow under a blacklight. If you keep it under a blacklight long enough, it will even glow in complete darkness. Some recipes instruct the reader to add the borax powder directly into the glue mixture. This may sometimes not work, as it will give you granular consistency, something like scrambled eggs. To get smooth slime, use dissolved borax solution. This slime can be used and stored for very long periods of time. After playing, store the slime sealed in a plastic cover and keep it in a refrigerator. If stored properly, this homemade slime can last almost indefinitely.
What will you use this slime for?
To throw it at another person.
To put it in someone's clothes.
To scare my sister by planting it in her room after dark.
To just squish it until it dies.
Pretend it is radioactive waste and scare people.
