Instructions
  1. Find a medium-sized glass bowl around which will come your wreath.
  2. The orange slices should be prepared in advance. They are very easy to make, and all one needs to do is peel the orange, preferably in a spiral pattern. Allow the rind to dry on a paper towel.
  3. Place a strip of wire netting flat and put some moss on it. Bend both sides of the wire up till they overlap, thus forming a tube. Next, bend both ends of the tube, till they meet and form a ring. Bind the ends together with floral wire. Place the glass bowl in the center of the tube.
  4. Separate the nutmeg & star anise into groups of three, preferably two of the former and one of the latter. Now stick these little clusters around the ring, ensuring that they are equally spaced. Next, glue on two full sticks and two half sticks of cinnamon, between the clusters.
  5. Cut the ribbon into three equal pieces and form each piece into a two loops. For the loops to stay, stick the bottom of the loops together, and glue the base of each piece into each cinnamon stick cluster.
  6. Cut the dry orange slices in half, and stick after every inch along the ring. Glue them, so the peel side is visible. Now stick on some more anise, adding them after every 2 to 3 inches. If you still see empty spaces, cover them up with moss.
  7. If you feel like, you could add some nut clusters, composed of 3 to 6 nuts, to the wreath.
  8. Your beautiful fragrant wreath is ready. To complete the ensemble, place your candle in the glass bowl and secure it to the bottom of the bowl with some floral clay. Now, fill the bowl with orange rind or small birch cones. Place the bowl in the center of the wreath.
These instructions on how to make candle rings, should help you understand the basics of making candle rings, using which you can come up with a myriad designs incorporating different materials. Simple floral candle rings can be made by using a base of twisted floral wire covered with a thick layer of floral tape, onto which are glued dried rose boutons (tiny dried rose buds) in pink or red. Spaces may be filled with moss. Apart from the basic moss ring, one could also use a store bought styrofoam wreath ring as a base. While the former is good for floral wreaths, the latter is better for seashell wreaths. The best part is that you can make them occasion or season specific, such as fall candle rings, spring candle rings, or wedding candle rings. Popular wedding candle rings may be theme specific, such as seashell candle rings for a beach wedding, or could be traditional, such as white rose or calla lily candle rings. Silk flower candle rings albeit an expensive option, add a touch of elegance to any setting.
