Ingredients
  • 5 raw bananas (peeled)
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • Coconut or vegetable oil for deep-frying
  • Salt to taste
  • Slotted spoon
  • Absorbent cloth
  • Chip Slicer (optional)
Directions for Preparation
  • First of all, make diagonal banana slices with the help of the chip slicer. In case, you are using regular kitchen knife, cut banana into uniformly thick diagonal slices (about 1/8 inch thickness).
  • In large sauce pan, prepare iced salted water. To this, add banana slices and turmeric powder. Keep the slices for 10 minutes.
  • After the banana slices have soaked up salt and turmeric, drain water completely. Place the slices over a cleaned kitchen cloth to remove excess moisture.
  • Heat coconut or vegetable oil in a thick skillet till it is hot enough. Add banana slices in one layer and fry for about 2 minutes, or until the chips are crunchy.
  • To make banana chips more crispy, you can add a mixture of ¼ teaspoon salt and ½ teaspoon water to the oil that you are frying banana chips.
  • Using a slotted spoon, take the banana chips and place them on an absorbent tissue paper to drain excess oil. Repeat the same steps for deep frying the remaining banana slices.
  • Banana chips taste best if consumed immediately. But, you can also store banana chips (after cooling down) in an airtight container.
How to Make Dried Banana Chips?

Dried banana chips contain negligible oil, while still retaining the taste of crispy and sweet flavored banana chips. Hence, if you are watching your diet and do not prefer having banana chips fried in oil, consider dried banana chips made by baking in oven.

Ingredients
  • 4 ripe bananas
  • Spray oil
  • Fresh lemon juice
  • Cooking sheet
  • Chip slicer
Directions for Preparation
  • Preheat oven to a temperature of about 150° F.
  • Using the chip slicer, prepare regularly thick banana slices (about ¼ inch thick).
  • Be ready with a flat cooking sheet; spray oil to this sheet to avoid sticking.
  • Lay the banana slices over the sheet, making sure that they are not overcrowded. Or else, you can leave some space between two slices, so that they do not stick together while baking.
  • After you are done arranging the banana slices, sprinkle fresh lemon juice. This will give a desirable color to the chips, while preventing them from browning.
  • Place the sheet with the banana slices in the oven and cook for about 1 hour. Then, check whether the banana slices are dehydrated completely or not.
  • If required, bake the banana chips for another half an hour. By this time, your chips will be dried and crispy. Remove the sheet from the oven and carefully lift the banana chips with a wooden spatula. Allow them to cool down before transferring in an airtight container.
