How to Make an Origami Rose

The ancient Japanese art of folding paper to make beautiful objects is known as origami and it is very popular even today. Origami is an art form that gets better with practice and you need to learn how to make precise folds to get good results. Origami paper flowers were always the most popular of all origami models. If you want to know how to make an origami rose, you have to first realize that there are many different types of origami rose that you can try making depending upon the level of difficulty. I would suggest that you should start with something easy and when you get comfortable with the folding techniques, you can get on to the more advanced origami rose.

Making an Origami Rose
The first easy origami rose that I am going to teach you is the most basic one which does not require too many complicated folds.

1. Take a square piece of origami paper in any color and fold the paper in half and fold it again to form a small square.
2. Unfold the paper, and you will see two creases that intersect each other.
3. Fold the paper diagonally to get a triangle and make another fold to get a smaller square.
4. Unfold the paper and you will see two additional diagonal creases on the paper. Mark them with a faint pencil line.
5. Fold the paper in half and then fold it inwards along the pencil marks so that you get an inverted triangular shape. Open the inside of the triangle and flip it in such a way that you get a compact square.
6. Place the square paper in a diamond shaped formation and fold the two sides towards the center line.
7. Fold the top portion of the paper towards the center and unfold the last three folds.
8. Lift the bottom corners of the square upwards and bring the edges towards the center and flatten them.
9. Turn the paper over and repeat steps 3 to 5.
10. Fold the top layer of the right side towards the center and then fold the model in half.
11. Turn the model over again, and open the four sides and start folding them in a triangular pattern, clockwise.
12. Flip the model over again and push a tweezer to the center and rotate it firmly for many turns.
13. Flip the model over again and fold the four flaps inside neatly.
14. Flip model over and you have your origami rose flower.

How to Make a Complicated Origami Rose
The next on how to make origami rose is a more advanced one that requires you to have a bit of skill and a lot of patience. So here are the origami rose instructions.

1. For this first you need a piece of origami paper, which you need to fold in half.
2. Unfold the paper so that you have a crease in the middle of the paper.
3. Fold the upper half of the paper and bring it towards the center line and do the same with the lower half of the paper.
4. Now unfold the paper once again, so that you have four creases that divide the origami paper into four equal sections.
5. Follow the same steps on the other side of the paper so that you have 16 equal squares.
6. Fold the paper in half and fold the lower half upwards to a position a little less than one third.
7. Unfold the paper and you will have two new creases. Mark these new creases with a faint pencil line so that they are distinctive from the rest.
8. Repeat steps 3 - 7 on the other side of the paper so that you have two more creases on the paper. Mark them with a faint pencil line.
9. Fold the paper into a triangle, and unfold again to get a new crease that is diagonal to the sheet of paper.
10. Repeat the above step again and you will see two diagonal lines that intersect each other.
11. Fold the paper at the diagonal creases and press the paper down while rotating the center to 90 degrees in the counter clockwise direction.
12. Carefully pull the two opposite sides of the center in the opposite direction and bring the edges down slightly to flatten it out.
13. Now press the center of the paper so that it is completely flat.
14. Flip the paper over and holding one corner of the paper bring the edges together towards the center.
15. Rotate the edges towards each other at a 90 degree angle.
16. Repeat the same procedure on all the four corners and then gather all the four sides of the rose.
17. Round off the edges with your fingers gently and push the inside of the rose so that it remains concealed and flat.
18. Place the rose on its other side so that you can work on the bottom.
19. Fold one side of the rose in an asymmetrical triangle downwards and keep on folding the other flaps in a clockwise direction.
20. When you are done folding all the flaps, fold the outer paper over it and tuck it under the second flap so that the bottom is sealed
21. Turn the rose over and insert a small chopstick or the end of a pencil at the center of the rose to smooth it out.
22. Voila! You have a perfect origami rose.

How to Make an Origami Rose With Stem
For those of you who want to make an origami rose with stem, here are the easy origami instructions for making the stem.

1. Take a square piece of origami paper and fold it diagonally.
2. Flip the paper over an fold the two sides to meet at the center line.
3. From the top, fold the paper again on both sides so that the edges meet at the center crease.
4. Now rotate the model to 90 degrees and fold the paper in such a way that it stands up.
5. Make one more similar model with the same patterned paper and place one of the folded model between the other.
6. Your origami stem is ready and you just need to attach it to the rose that you have created earlier.
