How to Make a Ninja Costume
Before we can go about making our very own ninja costume, let us take a look at the ninja warrior history. We have seen the spider like figures scuttling in the Japanese movies, swarming over the roofs with their ninja climbing gear and skirting around the courtyards, striking fear in the hearts of all, with their lethal assassination techniques. Characterized by their black robes, these legendary figures have been popularized in many movies and comic books. However the actual history of ninjas and what made them one of the most fearful assassins in the history of mankind, remains shrouded in mystery. The term ninja is derived from the term Shinobi-no-mono and is used to refer to the people who were trained in the martial arts form ninjutsu. These ninja warriors were mainly hired as spies, kidnappers or assassins. So if you want to replicate these mysteriously cloaked warriors, you need to be dressed just right with the appropriate ninja costume.

Making a ninja costume for the young ninjutsu enthusiasts, is very simple. For inspiration on how to make a ninja costume, refer to the Mortal Kombat video games series or the cartoon and comic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Here is a step by step guide on how to make a ninja uniform.

Making a Ninja Costume

Step 1: The first step in making a ninja costume is to decide on a color for the costume. No, it is not necessary that all ninjas have to be dressed in black! White ninja uniforms are equally popular.

Step 2: The next step is to pick up long sleeved t-shirts with a hood and a pair of loose and baggy pants in the chosen color. Make sure that there are no logos or brand names on the clothes.

Step 3: For the classic ninja mask, use a black scarf and wrap it around the top of your head. Then warp it around the jaws and the neck, and pin up the scarf. An alternative to this is to use a simple black ski mask or surgical face masks painted in black.

Step 4: Now for the ninja belt, which is ideally made to attach tools and weaponry. You can use a rope and attach it to your waist or just grab the sleeves of a t-shirt and pull them around your back while placing the middle of the shirt around your stomach. Tie up the backs, to make your samurai belt.

Step 5: To complete the look, wear a pair of inconspicuous shoes to match your outfit, and put in a pair of gloves. Use two black t-shirts and tie them around the knees, to resemble a knee pad. You can also choose to make elbow guards if desired.

Step 6: Now that we have got the clothes into place, let us look into the ninja metal gear that you would use. You can choose to pick up a ninja sword from any store with ninja gear supplies or create your own ninja weapons by covering a yard stick in tin foil. Remember that unlike a curved samurai sword sets, ninja swords are completely straight. You can also make a scabbard for your sword, by using an empty roll of wrapping paper and painting it in black. Now tie the scabbard around your waist, with your sword in it. You can also make throwing stars or knives in the same way.
