Material to make a Loft Bed
The materials required to make a loft bed can be listed as under:
- 4x4" lumbar boards 8' long (4 pieces)
- 4x8"Sheet of plywood (3/4")
- 2x6x8" regular lumbar (3 pieces)
- 1x3.5" finished board 8' long(3 pieces)
- Drywall screws (5/8") and lag bolts
Procedure to Make a Loft Bed
The procedure for making the loft beds can be listed as under:
- As we are learning how to make a loft bed, which is twin mattresses, we will need to spare a space of about an inch and more, as the the loft bed sits on the platform of about 38x76". Cut one 2x6" to the length of 76" and the other into 37"
- Overlap the smaller sections with the larger ones and hence by the time you finish, the structure should look like a box that is measuring 40x78". Secure all the lumbar boards with the drywall screws.
- Cut the plywood pieces according to the size of your lumbar box. At the interval of around two feet, install the drywall screws.
- Take 4x4" and lay them next to each other with their one end touching the bedroom wall. Measure 44" and draw a level line across all the four boards.
- Position two of the 4x4" in such a way, that their outer edges are parallel to each other leaving 78" in between them.
- Angle the platform on the posts in such a way that the plywood (top side) is touching the previously drawn lines on the posts. Install 2 holes through the 2x6" to the half of the 4x4" using the drill bit.
- Connect the platforms to the posts with help of the lag bolts and repeat the procedure with the other side of the bed as well. Lift up this frame and place wherever you want it to be.
How to Make Ladder for a Loft Bed?
Making ladder for your loft bed is extremely easy as compared to making a loft bed. Take two posts of desired height and join pieces of some 2x6" to them. Screw them tightly for safety measures. The greatest thing about the loft beds is the amount of space that is saved, which can be used for many purposes. You can add a nice futon couch, a dressing table, study table or a curtained fort according to your own imagination. You can also get your child to participate in this bedroom decorating, which will also enhance his creative abilities.
