Owing a swimming pool in your backyard or lawn sure is a blessing. You can sit and relax by it, swim in the cool water whenever you want and have loads of fun with your loved ones. Having a pool also makes your house one of the best around the neighborhood. But every good thing comes with a responsibility and if you are unable to fulfill it, that good thing gets soiled. Same is with a swimming pool. If you are a proud owner of a swimming pool, it's necessary to know how to maintain a pool.

All you need to clean your pool is proper guidance and some maintenance tips which will help you get a clean and safe pool for swimming.

How to Keep a Pool Clean

If you've just gotten a new swimming pool installed near your house, I think you should have good knowledge about pool maintenance. After all, regular cleaning and maintenance will give you years of happy pool memories.
  • Beginners should begin pool maintenance by treating the pool with a chlorine product. These products help you get rid of the bacteria of the pool water. Chlorine products come in the form of sticks or tablets. They are first put in the distribution container in the filter system.
  • Make sure you clean the pool water of all the debris. Make sure you dispose off the waste far away from the pool, so that it doesn't blow back into the water. If you have trees or bushes around your pool, make sure you prune them at regular intervals as they may shed pollen grains.
  • Change the direction of the nozzles of the return jets downward, so that you can see the floor of the swimming pool clearly. Now connect the vacuum to the hose for vacuuming.
  • Make sure you use an algae inhibitor to prevent more than 15,000 types of algae at bay. This liquid is poured in the water near the pump system, so that it can be equally distributed to all parts of the pool.
  • Make sure you shock your pool at regular intervals, almost after every 2 weeks.
  • You can also take the help of a pool maintenance professional which can also test the water samples of your swimming pool and give some more pool maintenance tips.
How to Maintain a Salt Water Swimming Pool

The concept of a salt water swimming pool is becoming more and more popular as they offer countless benefits. However, there's a common misconception among people that salt water pools are maintenance free. This is because of the salt water chlorinator which helps converts all the salts into chlorine. Let me tell you frankly that salt water swimming pools also require regular maintenance like normal pools. Here are some tips on how to take care of a salt water pool:
  • Make sure you check the water balance levels on a regular basis. Test your pool for pH and chlorine. Chlorine levels should be between 7.2 to 7.5 and the salt should be 1.0 to 3.0.
  • The main problem with a salt water pool is the running of the pool pump for more hours. During the swimming season, you may have to run your pump for more than 8 hours. The main reason behind this is that chlorine only gets added to the pool when the pump is running. So more pump running means more chlorine and safe water.
  • Don't forget to shock the pool at regular intervals. If you see the pool becoming cloudy, then giving it a shock session is again a good idea.
I hope now you know how to maintain a swimming pool. Following these guidelines properly will ensure a clean and safe swimming pool for years to come.
