How to Cut Your Hair

Step 1
Center part your hair and decide the maximum length of your hair. Best to keep a few inches extra then you wish to. At this point, clip a hair pin, one on each side. Be sure that the clips don't slip and those at both sides are at the same level. Now pin up one side of your hair. You will be working on one side of the center part at a time.

Step 2
Firstly, considering the clip as a guide, cut off your hair straight at that level. Do this on the other side as well and again pin up the hair on that side. Let's see the main step of how to layer your hair.

Step 3
You can start with a medium layered haircut with two layers and try more layers next time. Remember that we are first working on one side of the center part. Pin up the upper half of this whole section of hair into a clip. Take a hair section of 1-2 inches in width, starting from your ears and comb it smooth. You can cut this into a layer, just 1-2 inches above the maximum length of hair. Hold this section between your first and third finger. Hold the scissor in the other hand. Slowly slide your fingers up to ¼ inch above the level where you want the first layer to be. Now chop off your hair straight. You can also chop them diagonally to create a more trendy look. Now take the next section besides this one and proceed till the back of your head.

Step 4
Remove the upper pinned section on the same side. You have to cut this at least 1½ inches shorter than the previous layer. In the same way as mentioned in the previous step go on cutting it till the back of your head. Taking help of your friend is great idea for working on the back section.

Step 5
Pin up this section and open the section on the other side of the center part to finish this layered hairstyle. Repeat Step 3 and Step 4 on this side. Make sure you cut layers at the same level as you did on the first side.

Open both the sections and comb well. If you wish to have layered hairstyles with bangs you can add this to the front locks. Cut them till chin level or shorter if you have plain hair. Well, that was how to layer your hair. For guys, who want a layered cut, the same steps mentioned above can be followed. But make sure you work carefully as your hair length will be smaller. Cut your hair with patience and you are sure to have a great looking layered hairstyle.
