Installing Fonts on Windows 7

Windows is one of the popular operating system in use. The following are the steps to install fonts on the Windows 7.
  • Click on the "Start" button and then in the search program box, type 'Fonts' in it and press enter.
  • In the Font dialog box, that will be displayed on your screen, drag and drop the font file you have downloaded from the Internet.
  • Windows 7 automatically recognizes the fonts files having extension '.tty' (True type font).
  • It will install the font for your use. Check it in the list of fonts.
There is another method of installing new fonts on the Windows 7 operating system, which you may prefer. It's short and simple to use. After downloading the font file, double click on it. This action prompts the Windows 7 into providing you with a box with "Install" button on it. Click it get the font of your choice installed.

Installing Fonts on Vista

The following are the steps to install fonts on the Windows Vista system.
  • One can start installing fonts on the Windows Vista by clicking "Start" button.
  • Click on the 'Control Panel' to access 'Appearance and Personalization' option in the window that appears on the screen.
  • Click on the option to access 'Fonts'.
  • Click on Fonts, then on File which will bring you 'Install' button.
  • Clicking on the Install button will bring you File menu. If it is not the case, press ALT button to access it.
  • You can select the font you have install in the Add Font dialog box, under drive option.
  • Click on the Drive, then on the Folder option to bring the font file on the screen that you want to install.
  • Double click on it to start its installation on your machine.
Installing Fonts on Mac

Apple computer's Macintosh operating system is another operating system that is in use. The following set of instructions enables one to install new fonts on the computers using this system.
  • Click open the system folder named as 'Fonts'.
  • Open or access to the drives and the folders where you have saved the down loaded font files containing.
  • Select the fonts you want to install and drag and drop them into the system Fonts folder while holding down the Options key.
Primarily, one chooses fonts for their readability. Reading information off the screen is not as easy as it is from printed pages. It was found that more jagged, uneven or irregular the letters are more they are difficult to decode for a human brain. This quality hampers and slows down the pattern recognizing ability of the readers. This makes him, or her, spend more time in reading and making out the meaning of the information he is reading. The new font you have installed on your computer must be tested for their readability before their use in imparting information. After installation, you may also find that the font you have installed has compatibility issues with some programs and the information may appear distorted on the screen.
