How to Install Chicken Wire Fence
You are working hard on your garden to make it one of the best in town. But during the night, rabbits or raccoons can destroy your toil and sweat that you have put into your garden. It's time to install a chicken wire fencing. Let's proceed to learn how to install chicken wire fence.
Apart from rabbits and raccoons, moles are also considered pests for the garden. In order to keep them away, dig several inches down and set up a chicken wire fence to make sure that the moles don't come back. There are do-it-yourself projects which do not require much work or equipments. Staples, chicken wire fencing and a way to tie the fencing to some stakes are all that it takes to install them. These are found with half inch, one inch or two inch gap in wire gauges. These are available in farming supply stores. Given below are few steps on how to install chicken wire fence.
Step 1
First of all you need to decide the fence area and mark it accordingly. Now measure the distance between the stakes and then add both the measurements. This will be the length of your fence. Add an extra feet if the length of your fencing is not divisible by five.
Step 2
Divide the length of the fence by five and calculate how many stakes you need to build your fence.
Step 3
Take a string and tie it from one wooden stake to the next. This should connect them all. The string helps in guiding the setting for chicken wire stakes.
Step 4
Start with the corners and hammer chicken wire stakes into the ground. The rim should go completely underground. Lay a stake every five feet between the corners once they are set.
Step 5
Take a screw driver and break open the metal hooks on the chicken wire stakes.
Step 6
In order to keep the animals from going underneath, the wire hooks of the fencing should be attached to the fencing hooks.
Step 7
The hook around the chicken wire should be closed and should be bounded to the stake. This can be done by placing a sledge hammer behind the stakes and beating the hook shut with another hammer.
Step 8
The tent stakes should be pounded firmly to the ground for holding and hooking the chicken wire fence to the ground.
Besides the chicken wire fencing, there is barbed wire fencing and horse wire fencing. Barbed wire is a kind of wire which is used for fencing. It is made with sharp edges with points arranged at intervals. Any human or animal trying to go through a barbed wire fence may injure themselves. Horse wire fencing is used to separate mares and foals or stallions and geldings. So, after knowing these few steps on how to install chicken wire fence, you can surely try making one today for your garden. Your garden would become safe in no time at all.
