How to Install Chain Link Fencing?
If you want to install a chain link fence and you are wondering how to do it, I am sure this article will certainly help you.
Tips to install a Chain Link fence
- All the tools and materials need to be sorted out first and kept in an orderly position then. Ensure that you have essential tools like string line, the shovel, the wheelbarrow, hacksaw, pliers and tension wire clip and several others since getting them as and how you proceed with the work would be troublesome.
- Then locate your property’s boundary lines and clear away all obstructions to make sure that you work smoothly. Be sure of the level before pegging out the line of the chain link fence with string.
- Also mark the position of the end straining posts and dig the holes so that their foundations can be laid.
- Put the end straining post so as to make sure that the soil is dug well around the post or embedded in large rubble or big stones and old bricks, yet ramming is required. To get the best results the posts have to be anchored in concrete.
- A taut line has to be fixed between the straining posts to set up the intermediate standards along the line at every regular interval. Also if the line fence curves, it is better to fix backstay right to every standard. It is usually enough to ram the backstay erect in the ground but when concrete is used in case if plastic coated steel posts, the posts should be directly anchored in concrete.
- When the posts are firmly set then the coil of wire should be unrolled and strained between the posts. The number of line wires depend on the height of the fence, in case of Fencing less than 1.2 meters high, only two line wires are required and in case of fencing more 1.2 meters, three line wires are required.
- In case of wooden posts evenly spaced line wires are to be fitted with eyebolts, in case of Angle iron posts, winding brackets are to be used and in case of concrete, such eyebolts are to be used that hold the angle cleat to which the stretcher bar is attached.
- Once the post is erected and the concrete footings have hardened, you can start applying all the tension and the brace bands onto the terminal post.
- Now you can attach the loop caps to the line posts after which the chain link fabric is laid on the ground along the fence line. The tension bar has to be slid through the last link on the chain link fabric. Then lift up the fabric and lay it against the posts. The tension bar has to be fastened to the terminal post with the help of tension bands, which are already on the post. Walk along the fence to take the slack out. Then you can lightly attach the fabric to the top rail with the help of a few wire ties.
- If you have two wire fabrics and you have to attach those two together then take one strand of wire from one of these sections of fence and place the two section of fence next to each other, one adjacent to the other. Now to join the two sections wind the loose strand down through the other fence in a corkscrew fashion. Once joined, you can tighten the knuckles at the bottom and top. Now it is almost invisible, rather indistinguishable where the two sections have been attached and merged.
- Once the fabric is already fastened to the opposite end of the fence a tension bar is to be inserted approximately three feet inside that end of the fabric, which is not attached. Now you can fasten one end of the fence stretcher to the tension bar and the other end to the terminal post. The fabric has to be stretched and squeezing it by hand can check the correct tension, if it gives a little the tension is right. You can remove the fence stretcher now. At last tighten nuts on all brace and tension bands.
