How to Include Your Pet During the Holidays

Top 5 Ways To Include Your Pet in the Holiday Family Fun

As the holidays quickly approach, life can get increasingly busy and hectic. But the part that makes the holidays so much fun is the precious time spent with family and close friends. However, pets can sometimes get forgotten during the intense holiday shuffle. Here are a few ideas on how you can include your family pet in the holiday festivities!

For many families, the holiday season means one word: travel. Some people only go to one location away from home, while others do the location hop and visit several places in the course of a week. If you haven’t made arrangements yet for your dog, go ahead and take him with you! Whether you are traveling by car or plane, there is no need to worry. Most airlines will permit pets to fly, as long as you make the appropriate arrangements in advance. Most dogs are also good car travelers, as long as they are able to get out and run around for 5 or 10 minutes every so often. But if you have kids, the more the merrier!

Another way to include your pet in the holiday festivities is to provide your dog with a stocking and fun doggie stuffers. Items to include could be a fleece throw (every dog loves a blankie), a new tennis ball, a bone, or his favorite chew treats.

Many family members also look forward to the traditional holiday meal. Your dog’s diet may not permit him to eat some of the food from the table. So instead, buy your dog a special new bone and give it to him so he can have something tasty to chew on while you are eating your holiday dinner. That way, Fido can chomp on his delicious new bone at your feet as the family eats their meal together.

The time for opening presents can sometimes be difficult for a dog. They can feel the excitement in the air, and they want a part in it! So here’s what you can do: lightly wrap a present in wrapping paper with a package of your dog’s favorite meat treats inside. This way, they will be able to smell the treats…and because you wrapped it lightly, they should not have any difficulty tearing the paper off. One thing to remember though: don’t put the package under the tree until you are ready for Fido to open his present; otherwise, he may get to it before you are ready!

Finally, let your pet sign holiday cards with their precious paw print stamped on it. Everyone loves getting a present or a holiday card from the cutest puppy dog in the world…it will be a hit!

Though the holiday season is hectic, it is a time full of creating fond family memories. Let your pet be a part of the familial festivities, and you all will have a wonderful time. Happy holidays!
