Procedure to Hypnotize Yourself

A simple procedure to hypnotize yourself is provided below. For this activity, one would require free time and a quiet place. Turning off the disturbances of day-to-day life is necessary before trying this. Pairing together the words (in the form of instructions) with relevant images helps in going through a successful process of self-hypnosis. The set of images being used by a person can vary, depending on his/her choice. There are many self hypnosis techniques being used for this purpose. Let us have a look at one of them.

Believing: The first step of this process is to portray a picture of or create an imaginary scene involving you as the central figure. The following example is recommended by many experts in this field. Let us say that you are standing on a staircase with 10 steps. Last five steps at the bottom are submerged in water. The objectives/goals that one wants to achieve are floating in the form of three unopened boxes. Now, as you settle down or become relaxed, it becomes easy to imagine the stuff that is stated above.

Absorbing the Associated Emotions: The emotions that arise out of believing the things presented in the paragraph above do exists, start to affect you mind in a positive way. The next step in the process is that of making a move towards your goals. Let us understand how to proceed further.
  • As one is standing on the uppermost step, he should try to feel the air around himself. Slowly and steadily, the process of descending the steps should be initiated.
  • As the sixth step (which is covered by water) comes nearer and nearer, one should try feel the cold sensation of water under which it is submerged.
  • While touching the water surface one should try to think that in the quest of achieving the goals, mind should be kept free of all the impurities and disturbances of the outer world.
  • As the 6th, 7th and finally the 10th step is descended, one should feel the water rising around and higher up the body.
  • A move towards ones goals should be made while at the bottom step. Focus of the mind need to be on the boxes (goals).
  • The boxes need to be opened one-by-one. The goals being set by a person could be anything like developing a positive and strong attitude.
  • Making use of positive statements is extremely important and recommended. If necessary, the statements (of course, the positive ones) should be repeated over and over.
  • Once the mind is completely 'drenched' in the feelings of what one has/wants to achieve, he/she must come back to the bottom of staircase. The return journey should be started after the activity with the boxes.
  • Activity of ascending the steps (after rising above the water level submerging 6th step) should make the body to feel heavier for sometime. Taking a stop at this point should be the next step.
  • As you reach the final (topmost) step, wait for a while before opening the eyes. While opening the eyes, shouting out (not literally) to wake yourself up completes the process.
The process of learning to hypnotize yourself to lose weight or to achieve any other goal should be similar. Weight loss through hypnosis is possible with the technique mentioned above. The goals being set in this case are however, different. The technique of hypnotizing yourself to sleep is not much different principally, from those mentioned above. The only difference is that the goal here is to do nothing. The degree to which one can relax his/her mind is directly associated with the success being achieved.
