How to Have a Flat Stomach
We all have flat stomachs, but the excess fat in our body tends to accumulate on our abs leaving us with unwanted and ugly pot-belly. In order to have a flat stomach, you need to fix this excess fat and tone your abdominal muscles. Read on to know more about how to have a flat stomach.
How to Have a Flat Stomach Fast?
The foremost thing to understand is that the fat on your belly has accumulated over a period of time, and hence it will take some time for you to lose belly fat. How much time this will take will entirely depend on the goal you set for yourself, and your commitment towards achieving it. Before you know how to have a flat stomach, you need to understand how the ab muscles function and how our body burns fat. Fat is nothing but the excess calories which are accumulated in the form of layers above the muscle tissues. Body fat cannot be converted into muscles, but its possible to gain more and more fat, and simultaneously lose muscles. The rule of the thumb, therefore, is that if you want to sport a nice flat stomach, you have to shed all those layers of fat accumulated on your abs.
Exercises to Have a Flat Stomach
Exercising is the most effective way to shed fat accumulated on the abs. A combination of stomach exercises and cardio exercises will help you to achieve your goal in relatively lesser duration of time. Abdominal exercises will help in strengthening stomach muscles, while cardio exercises will help in burning that extra fat on the body. Stomach exercises don't just help in fat burning, but also tone the muscles in the stomach, and increase their size. While adding muscles to the body, there is a significant increase in our body metabolism and hence we tend to burn more calories. Abs can be divided into three sections - upper abs, lower abs and obliques. You should concentrate on each of these, specifically to get the desired results in quick time. Stomach exercises can be included in your regime, involving the basic crunch exercises for upper abs, the reverse crunch exercise for lower abs and the oblique crunch for the obliques. Cardio exercises are good metabolism boosters, which help in burning calories and having a flat stomach. These cardio exercises include fast paced walking, cycling, running, kick boxing, etc. One has to make sure that you choose exercises that you are comfortable, doing. For instance, there is no point in running, if it tends to hamper your knees. These exercises should be done for 30 to 40 minutes a day, and 4 to 6 times a week. You can start with the minimum and go on increasing the duration, as your stamina increases. One of the most popular cardio workout is the interval workout, wherein you switch between jogging and sprinting at regular intervals.
Diet Tips to Have a Flat Stomach
It's important to combine the aforementioned exercises with proper dietary habits. Both are equally important in working your way towards a flat stomach. It's wiser to have 5 - 6 small meals throughout the day, rather than having 2 - 3 meals specifically in the morning, afternoon and at night. Our body is programmed to store extra food in the form of fat for future use. So, eating a lot at one time will fill the future deposits and eventually lead to an ugly belly. Having 5 - 6 small meals spread throughout your day increases your body metabolism and hence burns more calories. Eating in this pattern will also make sure that you are full throughout the day and therefore stay away from unhygienic junk food. Another important dietary habit is to avoid having food 2 to 3 hours before you hit the bed. Last but the most important thing, is to cut down on sugar, which is the main culprit when it comes to excess body fat. A healthy diet for great abs and a flat stomach would ideally include fruits, whole grains, vegetables, nuts, lean protein foods and lots of water.
Knowing how to have a flat stomach, will not just help you to look good, but will also help you to stay healthy. It's important that you stick to your commitments once you start working on your midsection. Mixing things will make sure that you don't get bored with the workouts or food, because its important to do these exercises and follow the diet on a regular basis. Skipping a few days in between will only mean you start all over again.
