  • The first thing you can do is to locate the nest. This you can do by keeping a trap of meat or sweet. Keep the wasp trap away from you and find out from where the yellow jackets are coming. This will help you in marking the nest. You can also get ready-made wasp trap in the market. These traps are very helpful when you are out somewhere for picnic or in your garden.
  • Once you find out yellow jacket's nest, you need to wait till night. At night, all the wasps are in their nest. They have poor vision in the night which will reduce the chances of getting stung.
  • Now treat the nest with pyrethrum aerosols. This will form gas and will fill the cavity of the nest which will further result in the death of the yellow jackets. Next day just check out the nest. Wait till the aerosol dries. After it dries dust the opening with Pyganic Dust or Delta Dust and leave it. This continues the killing process for many days.
  • Apart from this, there are some home remedies to get rid of yellow jackets. One of them is, pour soap water at the entrance of yellow jacket nest. This will kill the wasp inside the nest. This process can also be performed with the help of boiling water. But remember perform this task in the night only so as to reduce the chances of being stung.
  • Now if you find yellow jackets on the ground, then the first thing you should do to avoid the entry of the yellow jackets is by keeping the trash container tightly covered. Avoid throwing food particles and food containers near the house or places where you go as this will attract these creatures very easily.
  • Avoid wearing perfumes, scent, deodorants, saving lotion or anything which has strong fragrance. These thing attract yellow jackets.
For a normal person, the sting will result in pain and itching at the affected area but for the people who are allergic to the sting may require medical treatment. So, don't forget to keep first aid for wasp sting, if you are planning to go out for a picnic. If the sting results in excessive swelling, redness, severe pain and pus formation then consult a doctor immediately as it may be due to the sting infection.
