How To Get Rid of Stretch Marks

Many people face a battle with stretch marks. Would you like to know how to get rid of them? Then keep reading this article.
Stretch marks aren’t only experienced by pregnant women. Actually both men and women of all ages and all ethnicities can find themselves struggling with stretch marks. Especially if they have a yo-yo type diet where they gain and lose a significant amount of weight back and forth. These stretch marks are the result of your elastin and collagen, which form the connective skin tissue, breaking apart. So how can you get rid of these stretch marks? The following are 3 available treatments.

Tretinoin or Retin A
Microdermabrasion Treatment
Laser Treatment

Now let’s explore these 3 treatments in more detail.

1. Tretinoin or Retin A

Creams work best in reducing wrinkles and fine lines when they contain at least 0.1% Tretinoin. Of course you will benefit more if the stretch marks are new. You can also use Retina A only if the marks are still pink or have a reddish color to them. If the stretch marks are more than a year old you probably won’t see results with this treatment.

On a more important note you can’t use Tretinoin if you are pregnant or breast-feeding because it could pass to the baby and become harmful. If you want to try this treatment you simply request a prescription from your doctor. Your insurance may or may not cover the costs of the prescription so the prices you have to pay will vary.

2. Microdermabrasion Treatment

The microdermabrasion treatment consists of a spray containing micro crystals and chemicals applied to the skin. Be advised this is a high-speed treatment that is applied under pressure using a vacuum device. You will have to undergo up to a dozen treatments within 3-4 month time frame.

You should also be aware that this can be very painful and your skin could end up really bruised after a treatment.

You shouldn’t expose the treated skin to direct sunlight at all. The treatment isn’t guaranteed either but rather a hopeful treatment. It will add up over time depending on how many treatments you have to undergo and each one can run from $100 - $200. You should try to plan a budget of $2000 minimum. Insurance companies don’t usually cover this treatment.

3. Laser Treatment

Laser actually stands for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. It is a very effective treatment for many types of skin conditions including stretch marks. Once the treatment is finished the stretch marks will be gone and your skin will be back to it’s stretch mark free condition.

Your doctor may give you an anesthesia because of the pain. Each person will experience the pain in a different way; some find it to be excruciating pain and others find it bearable. It definitely varies by the individual. You can also expect to peel and bruise.

Each session costs around $600 - $700 and you will have to endure eight or more sessions so make sure you have a budget of $5000 minimum to have this treatment. It might be somewhat expensive but it is also considered to be one of the most effective clinical stretch mark treatments available but like other treatments, there isn’t always a guarantee. Just do your research first and find a surgeon that has had great results with his patients that had this type of treatment.

Now you know three of your options for getting rid of those stretch marks. Consider them all and decide if you think one is right for you. You should also read part 2 for even more ways to get rid of those stretch marks.
