How to Get Rid of Scars
Scars are actually marks or tarnishes that are produced on the skin when wounds are cured or healed. These are the fibrous tissues that perform the function of replacing normal skin against the old skin often leaving a mark on the skin. In order to remove scars one can either opt for a home based cure or for other advanced treatments.

How to Get Rid of Scars

Homemade cures for removing scars
  1. Honey proves to be a very good medicine for healing scars if you have a dry skin. All you need to do is just apply and rub honey on the scarred area.
  2. Other than honey, olive oil is also an effective medium for getting rid of scars. You can apply and rub it on the affected area for a couple of times throughout the day.
  3. Essential oils also help in healing scars. Applying around 2 drops of lavender essential oil on the scars would help lightening the scars
  4. Liquid content of the vitamin E capsules if mixed with aloe vera gel with same quantities and applied on the scars, also proves to be useful in removing scars.
  5. A massage of coconut oil on the scars helps in getting rid of scars if you have a dry skin.
  6. An olive oil massage on the scars also is useful
  7. Applying mint juice on scar also helps in fading scars.
  8. Green tea, if blanched and applied with a piece of cotton helps in healing the scars.
  9. Lemon juice also helps in fading the scars.
These were home-based cures, however there are some other treatments too in scar removal such as:

Needling
It involves making microscopic punctures to the skin in the affected area for the formation of collagen. It is effective for acne scar removal and is a cost-effective method.

Pressure Garments
In order to heal the more recent and larger scars caused due to burns, one can opt for using pressure garments. Blood vessels in this treatment are actually subjected to constant pressure which causes the scars to flatten and soften.

Removing the Skin
This method is known as dermabrasion in which the affected skin is removed with anesthesia and specialized equipment. However the limitation of this treatment is that it is useful only for the visible scars that are above the skin and not for the scars that are embedded below the surrounding skin. This is a cosmetic procedure and is also used in treating the skin damaged by sun.

Injecting Steroids
This treatment if done for a considerable time with medical advice and supervision leads to lightening of the scars. In this form of treatment, scars are injected with steroids to accelerate the healing process and reduce pain and inflammation.

Radiotherapy
This treatment is low dose and superficial. It helps in preventing hypertrophic and keloid scars from re-affecting the skin. However one thing should be remembered that this treatment is useful only for very serious cases that would affect the skin in the long run.

"How long does it take for a scar to heal?" would be a very tricky question. Scar healing depends on the intensity of the scars and how big they are. Bigger scars normally take a long time to heal or lighten, however the exact number of days or months cannot be predicted. These can take months or even years to heal.

Scars pertain to the skin and therefore need to be dealt with the proper consultation of a skin expert. Before going for any treatment or cure, all its side effects, benefits and the methodology should be understood. The important consideration would also be the skin type, previous treatments undergone, allergies, the type and intensity of scars. Get rid of scars and enjoy a flawless skin.
