How to Get Rid of Dark Spots from Acne

Read the following article for some effective home remedies as well as other treatments to get rid of dark spots from acne.
Dark spots usually occur when we pick on the pimples or zits in our enthusiasm to get rid of them quickly. What we don't realize is that by doing this, we will be left with some ugly-looking spots or scars, which will be very difficult to treat later. If you too have such scarring and spotting on your skin, then here are some handy tips for you.

Lemon Juice
Apply lemon juice as it is a natural skin bleacher. For applying lemon juice on the face, make a mixture of two teaspoons lemon juice, three drops of honey and one teaspoon of rosewater. With a cotton ball, apply this mixture gently on the face. Leave it on for about fifteen minutes, and then wash off with lukewarm water. Apply this lemon juice mixture on your face everyday for best and quick results.

Glycolic Acid Peels
Almost all salons offer glycolic acid peel facials, also called alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) peels for treating acne scars. In this treatment, a chemical peel which contains glycolic acid is applied on the face. Glycolic acid helps in the formation of new skin cells, and thus, a new layer of skin replaces the old scarred layer, diminishing the spots or scars in the process.

Hydroquinone
Apply skin creams which contain hydroquinone. Alternately, topical skin creams, gels, and lotions, which contain vitamin C, are equally effective.

Microdermabrasion
In this procedure, aluminum oxide crystals are run on the skin surface by using controlled pressure. These crystals abrade the skin, and thus, minimize pigmentation and dark acne spots.

Masks
To get rid of dark spots naturally, the solution lies in applying face masks prepared from ingredients available in your kitchen. A simple recipe for such a face mask is mixing chopped parsley, grated onion, grated cucumber, fuller's earth and rose water together and then applying this mixture on the face every week. Another effective mask recipe is to mix oat flakes, milk and honey and then applying it on the affected skin area.

Besides these tips, there are a number of preventive measures which you should also undertake to minimize spotting from occurring again. Drinking lots of fluid and water, and eating foods such as cucumbers, lemons, tomatoes and oranges, help in purifying the blood and removing toxins from the body. Regular exfoliation of the skin, helps in removing dirt and grime from the skin pores, preventing acne as well as acne-related spotting from occurring in the future. Lastly, application of a sunscreen, when going out in the sun, helps in preventing the occurrence of dark spots too.
