How to Get Rid of a Cold
The main irony about common cold is that although 'common', there is no real cure for it. So if you're looking for how to get rid of a cold, I cannot recommend a sure fire method for that. But yes, I can surely advocate some temporary lifestyle adjustments that will stop the growth of the virus. So, want to know how to get rid of a cold fast?

How to Get Rid of a Cold Quickly?

The way I see it, the simplest way to beat an illness is to create a condition in which the virus cannot survive. If you continue to provide the virus a safe haven in your body, why will it ever go? The same goes for the common cold virus. Since you can't kill it, create a situation in which it cannot live, and make its life hell! Here's how you can do that and how to quickly get rid of a cold.

Drink Enough Fluids: The antibodies are at work and you need to supply them enough ammunition for their war. So keep your body hydrated by drinking enough water. You can also consume the water rich foods such as oranges and lemons to keep your body hydrated.

Vitamin C: Like I mentioned before, you have to supply your body with the necessary ammunition. Vitamins are generally good for overall upkeep of the body and consuming vitamin C will provide the body the arsenal to fight off the viruses and stop their growth. So bring home the oranges!

Chicken Soup: Chicken soup is often used figuratively to show something that is a good curative. It is popularly accepted that chicken soup helps cure common cold. And since it is 'warm', it will help the body in fighting the 'cold'.

Steaming: During a cold it is important to keep your body warm. Hence steaming is a good answer to 'how to get rid of a cold', as it keeps the body warm. You can steam the nasal area in isolation by holding your head above a water steamer or even go for a steam room. But make sure that you cover your body later because if you suddenly expose your body to the normal temperature, you might feel feverish.

Green Tea: Tea, especially green tea is a very nourishing drink and its advantages will come to the fore, in times of crisis like these! Green tea too helps revitalize the system and gives the body new-found courage to fight! You can also have your tea along with lemon grass or ginger root.

Protein Rich Foods: Continuing the point about helping you fight the virus, proteins will help your antibodies become stronger, and help get rid of cold quickly.

Get Enough Rest: Your body is already engaged in enough activities, so make sure that you give it enough rest. So, sleep well (8 hours of sleep) and don't involve yourself in physically stressful activities, such as sports during illness.

Supplements: Your diet may not supply your body with some of the nutrients that are necessary for fighting the virus. Hence you may consume them in the form of supplements. Some of the most useful supplements for getting rid of cold are zinc supplements, vitamin supplements and garlic supplements.

Kick the Butt: Yes! Curb your smoking habit while you are ill. As it is due to the illness, your lungs are overworked. Your lungs are going to be even more stressed if you push smoke into them.

Reduce Outdoor Activity: Well this might not always be feasible, but if the weather outside is too cold or rainy, avoid the outdoors as much as possible, at least while you are sick.

These were 10 answers to the question, how to get rid of a cold. Mind you, these are just the non-medical ways of getting rid of a common cold. If you notice signs of something more serious like a fever or flu, it is best to consult a doctor as soon as possible.
