Tips on Getting Over a Crush
Understand What is Crush: What is a crush? It is a feeling of extreme fondness for someone. Does that mean that you want to be friends with that person? Or is it that he/she arouses the same emotions that you have when your favorite cousin is with you? No, definitely not! Though not true love, crush does have a touch of romantic feelings. May be you really like someone and now you know that (for some reason) you can't nurture those emotions any longer. What do you do? Just take a moment to answer these questions and be sure if your emotions are signs of being in love:
- You both planned for a movie together. Just an hour before the show he calls up and says that his old aunt needs help cleaning her house and so he can't make it for the movie. How do you feel?
- May be you have a wonderful career in the city, but he has to move to some other place. Would you quit your job for him?
Stop Thinking About Your Crush: When you want to get over someone, it is best to stop thinking of how wonderful life would have been with him. The fact that it turns into a weaker relationship, is a cue that there could not have been anything wonderful with this guy.
Be Positive: Don't think that your crush is the Miss/Mr. Perfect. Well, actually no one is. So you didn't lose something that was one of its kind. It is important to understand that what is meant for you will come to you even if you don't know whether it exists, and what goes away was never really yours. May be moving out of this person from your life has only opened the door for the one who really belongs to you.
Call On Friends: Want to have some good time and ease out the ache? What better way than to call over friends and have a small re-convalescing party. Or may be, go out shopping or for a movie. Ladies you really know how to keep your chin up, don't you? For the men, hit the sports ground, go clubbing!
Get Busy: They say An empty mind is a devil's workshop. Well, only in this case it would cause more heartache. So why not pull your socks up and enroll into the salsa class that you have been wanting to do for so long? Why not visit cousin Catherine who has just moved into town? You have a life of your own and a host of own interests that excite you. Your world is so much beyond one person. Live every moment of your life and make it worth yourself and those who choose to stay around you.
A Feather to Your Cap?: No, no, it's not a castle that you have conquered, (or let's relate more to the present times) - it isn't the existence of life on Mars that you have confirmed. Be it getting over a break up or over the emotions of a failed crush, it is a feat in itself. On a more serious note, there are always lessons learned from difficult times. Getting over this crush would only make you wiser and stronger with respect to handling relationships in future.
Look Back and Smile: I did say not to think of how beautiful life would have been with this guy/girl. But you have to admit the fact that the feeling was good. Just look back and smile at the times you had those feelings and the way you reacted to them. Even if they didn't last forever, you had greater moments of joy that those who never had a crush.
Make a Conscious Effort: All said and done, you have to realize that none of the above tips is going to work without a conscious effort on your part. You have to understand that it is not the end of the world. There is one principle that I follow, and believe me it works great. That belief is It is I who decide if I am happy or sad. Take charge of your life and your heart. It may hurt a little bit and it should, like so many other emotions. But if there is a rainbow after a downpour, then even you can be happy at the end of it all.
Having a crush is just one of the many events in life that take us through a rigmarole of emotions. Although getting over a crush may seem the most illogical and impossible step to consider, the truth is that we all have to learn how to get over a crush.
