There are times, when the water dispenser may become dysfunctional. At times the filter may not work properly, or sometimes the entire unit may go out of function. At such times you need to know the exact reason why this problem has risen. The same applies while you need to fix a water dispenser which has ceased to function. Here are some ways to fix a water dispenser on a refrigerator, all by yourself.
- The first step towards repairing a water dispenser on the refrigerator is to buy the correct water dispenser parts so that you don't face any further issues. After you purchase the parts, you can get to the task of fixing or repairing the water dispenser on your refrigerator.
- You need to troubleshoot the refrigerator problem to find out where exactly the unit has suffered a damage. For this, switch on the unit and hold a glass below the spout. Though the unit may not dispense water, you can hear a buzz if you place your hand on the door. This means the pump is in working condition and the mechanical parts do not require replacement.
- There can be a problem of blockage in the pipe which dispenses water, or in the one which carries water to the storage unit of the dispenser. So before you check out the root cause of the problem unplug the electrical supply of the refrigerator so that you can work properly.
- Remove all the screws and clamps of the water filter so that you can dismantle it from the refrigerator and closely observe the problem. If there is water in the storage unit, then it is advisable to remove the things from the fridge, lest the water spills on them. Unplug the filter from the unit and check for signs of contamination. If the filter appears slightly brownish or yellow in color then it has been contaminated and needs to be replaced.
- Due to a cooler temperature inside the fridge there are chances that the water may get frozen. If this is the case, then you have to remove the icicles from the cooler and also increase the temperature to a few degrees to avoid further freezing of water.
- Once you are done with the task, replace all the parts together properly. You can refer to the instruction manual which comes with the refrigerator. Fixing all the parts in place will save any further problems. Fill the cooler with water and reconnect the electrical supply. Check if the cooler is dispensing water as before. In case you are unable to decipher and address the problem, call a technician who will do it.
