How to Fix a Dishwasher
Dishwasher is one of the basic necessities in our houses. Dishwasher can break down due to some common problems, which can be easily fixed by ourselves. This article will guide you on fixing leakage, drainage, noise problems, etc...

Leakage Problems
Water leakage at the base of the machine is one of the problems that might affect the functioning of the dishwasher. Firstly, check whether you are loading all the dishes properly, because improper loading may end up in leakage of water. Avoid detergents which produce excess amount of foam. Reducing the quantity of detergent might also help. Apart from all this, remember to check the door gasket too, which can also cause water leakage. The door gasket can crack and can get damaged with time. So you can tighten the latch of the door or replace the gasket completely. Also check the hoses, if they are causing leakage and then tighten the clamps with a screwdriver.
Drainage Problems
Improper functioning of the water pump in the dishwasher can be a reason for the drainage problem. Improper functioning of the pump, causes water to accumulate in the dishwasher. Clogging of the drain lines can cause malfunctioning of the pump. Also check out for any blockages in the drainage hose. Sometimes the drainage hose is not able to channel water to the pipes properly. Remove the cover which is located in the air gap above the sink. After this clean it with a wire and then check the connection to the disposer for any clogs. You can also remove and clean the strainer properly. Apart from this, check for the hoses, if they are loose it can cause the dishwasher to stop draining. So tighten the hoses properly also make sure that the machine is completing full cycle as stopping it half way will not allow it to drain.
Sliding Racks
The solution can lie in the wheels. Check for any debris and dirt around the wheel tracks. Apply a lubricating agent to wheels, that are difficult to push and pull. If the wheel is cracked or broken, you would have to replace it with a new wheel, which is available at the hardware store. Sometimes the rack may fall down, when the door is opened. This may be caused due to faulty or worn out spring in the door. The spring should be replaced, which is located in the access panel. Film getting accumulated on dishes after wash is also a common complaint. Hard water may be a cause. Hard water cannot break the chemicals present in your detergent easily, which leads to formation of film on the dishes even after a wash. Also avoid excess use of detergents.
Noise Problems
This can be caused by improper loading of dishes. You must also check for the inlet filters. Check for any damage in the spray arm or if any obstructions are present. The noise might be produced by the blade or fan motor, so check for motor mounts.
However, if there is any major complicated problem, then the help of a professional must be sought.
