How to Fire Employees

Being a boss comes with many perks and pleasures, but it also has its down sides. One of the negative aspects of being a boss is that you are usually the one in charge of firing employees. It’s never easy and no one wants to be responsible for telling someone they have lost their job, but it is necessary. There are a few ways to fire employees properly.

Be Sensitive

No matter what the situation is you need to be sensitive to the employee’s feelings, and how they will take the bad news. Even if the firing was because of something they have done, there is no need to kick them while they are down.

File Paperwork

They last thing you need when firing an employee is for them to come back and sue you for something. Make sure you have filed all the correct paperwork and have gone through legal steps of firing someone. This makes sure there is nothing the employee can do to comeback at you for.

Have Just Cause

You can not just fire someone because you don’t like them. You need to have a legitimate reason as to why you have to let go of that employee. Make sure you make it clear and there is no misunderstanding.

Seek Legal Advice

Before you even think about firing someone you will want to seek the advice of an attorney to make sure that you do everything properly. A lawyer will help you understand what paperwork needs to be filed and how to properly handle the legal aspects of a firing.
