If it's cooperation you're looking for, look for those activities that involve everyone on the team doing their part in order to succeed. These kinds of activities often include some type of physical goal, which builds trust as well as offers personal encouragement within the team itself.

It may be getting through an obstacle course, it may be moving an object through an obstacle course, or it may be using critical thinking or thinking outside the box. So these types of activities are great for teams as they learn to listen to each other and build trust within each other to complete a task.

Of course, there are particular activities for other types of team skills that can help with group consensus, decision making, as well as communication. Most of the time you'll find your team skills improving in all areas whether you're trying to improve one particular skill or several.

Also, you'll find that your team comes out of these skill building activities a more cohesive unit. It's important to set goals before heading for team building activities, as it can allow the whole team to look for these particular goals while working together.

Whether you tell your team the goals or not is up to you, but you may be surprised that they are already aware of distinct problems within the team and will readily agree to work with the goals and activities in order to improve the team as a whole.

You may also find it advantageous to include your higher up employees within the lower rank teams. This can allow those underneath to get to know those above within a safe and effective environment as well as allow them to feel more connected to their boss.

And of course, your executive begins to understand those below them and can look for skills needed in future openings, or for those with particular skills for moving in a lateral movement within the company.
