How to Fight a Parking Ticket and Win
Be Polite With the Officer
When you realize that a police officer has caught you and are bound to get a ticket, you should always try and reason with the police officer in a polite, courteous manner. If your reason is genuine enough and you are able to convince the officer of the same, you can manage to avoid getting the ticket and instead escape with a warning. Remember to treat the officer with respect and be gracious while talking to him, as the final decision lies with him.
Check the Ticket
After you have been booked and given the ticket, go through it once checking every detail written on it. Sometimes a mistake on the parking ticket can save you the fine if you are able to prove it with evidence.
Visit the Court
If you are going to fight for your ticket in the court, do a little bit of background check on the officer and get a court date which intervenes with the officer's agenda. In case of the police officer not showing up in the court on the date of hearing, your ticket stands canceled. It is always a risk, worth taking. But if you are unlucky and the officer turns up for the case, be calm and repentant in front of the judge. Let the judge know about your past record (if it's clean), reason for you getting the ticket and try and convince the judge that the act will not be repeated in the future. Even though you cannot do away with the fine completely, there are strong chances of the judge going lenient with you and charging you a much lesser amount as fine.
Legal Assistance
More often than not, fighting these cases are not about the money, instead they are about fighting demerit points. If that is the case, then it makes sense to approach a company which would represent and fight your case in court. They will charge a fee, but chances of your demerit points being taken back are increased manifold.
Innovative Tricks
There are a few ways you can avoid a parking ticket, but there is no guarantee that it will work for you. If you park your car, leave the emergency lights on, and put on the hood on your vehicle, your car will appear as an deserted car on the road rather than a parked one. No police officer can give you a ticket for it. Also, instead of parking on city property, you park on any private property, a police officer cannot hand you a ticket. You should be careful from the owner of that particular property though. One more trick is to write a note saying, you fed money in the parking meter but it did not account for it, and leave it on your dashboard. For this trick to work, the officer should be able to see the note. So try making it as readable as possible. These tricks are clearly to be tried at your own risk.
Avoid using parking loopholes to cheat the law as you could face even more severe consequences than getting a parking ticket.
