Ending a Relationship with Someone You Love
Ending a relationship or breaking up with someone you love, after all those wonderful years, can be one of the toughest struggles you'll ever go through. You may think about the time and love you've invested in the relationship for that person. Being the person ending the relationship can be more painful than being on the receiving end. You may go through a roller-coaster of emotions. Here are a few tips on how to discontinue a relationship.
- If you want to end a relationship, do it in person rather than breaking up via an sms or email or even over the phone. Respect that person even if you want to break-up.
- Be honest on why you want to break-up and don't turn it into a blame-game, as it may lead to more arguments and discussions.
- Choose an appropriate place to break the news. It is better to avoid crowded places in case there could be a scene. Look for a location where you can be assured of privacy, as tears and tantrums are bound to follow.
- Give your partner a chance to express his feelings and his take on the break-up. This would help both of you as you've given a chance to clarify issues.
- Try to control your emotions and feelings. Tears and depression are bound to follow but you need to take it in your stride and remember that time is the best healer.
Though it's not possible to end a relationship without causing the other person a degree of hurt, you can at least reduce the impact. Here are a few ways for ending a relationship
- Talk to each other on why you want to end the relationship. It should be a mutual decision and things should be sorted out amicably.
- Learning to control your temper will be a good option. Remember screaming and getting angry at each other may only make matters worse. It's okay to cry and get upset if you feel miserable, but don't mess up a delicate situation or create a scene as it will not help.
- Be humble and accept your mistake if you are wrong. If the other person is at fault, then explain it to him in a gentle manner rather than being harsh.
- Provide reasons for your break-up, rather that letting the other person wonder what went wrong.
It's not always easy to end a relationship that has seen so many happy times. If you really want to end a relationship the least you can do is to end it with a sense of dignity. Use these following tips discontinuing the relationship on a positive note.
