What Causes Boils?
There are many factors which can lead to the formation of boils. A boil is a deep infection in the skin and is also known as skin abscess.
Boils have various forms and can occur on any part of the body. The different kinds of boils are described below.
- Hidradenitis Suppurativa: These affect areas like the armpits and the groin region. You can get multiple boils at a time. They are mainly formed due to clogging of the sweat glands and can be extremely painful. They take some time to cure and can recur.
- Cystic Acne: They are formed due to infection in the oil glands. These types of boils are mostly seen in teenagers.
- Furuncle or Carbuncle: They are caused due to Staphylococcus aureus. One may experience fever due to these type of boils.
- Pilonidal Cyst: Avid backpackers and people who travel extensively suffer from these type of boils. They are formed near the anal region.
- People with a weak immune system can also suffer from boils, especially people with diabetes. Certain medicines weaken your immune system, making you more susceptible to boils.
There are many ways to cure skin boils. But these treatments don't work instantly. It is advisable to consult a doctor and take the required medication. However, there are some natural cures for boils which have proven to be effective. These are mentioned as follows.
- Turmeric is a very effective cure for boils on skin. You can mix turmeric in milk and drink it. Application of turmeric paste on the infected area can help in the reduction of pus. You can apply the paste thrice a day.
- Neem is considered to be the best cure for boils. Make a paste of the leaves and apply it on the infected area.
- Cumin seeds are also an effective treatment for boils. It can be used if other treatments fail and if there is acute pain. You can take cumin seeds powder and mix it with warm water. Apply it four times a day on the infected area. It will effectively reduce the pain and swelling and make the boil soft.
- Epsom salt is also an effective cure for boils. You can apply it directly or mix it with warm water and then apply it.
- Onion is a good home cure for boils. You can apply onion juice on the infected area three to four times a day. It helps in removing the pus. You can also heat raw onion and then apply it.
- You can also place a warm cloth on the infected area. This will help in removing the pus. After the pus is removed, clean the area and apply an antibacterial cream on it.
- You can also apply tea tree oil on the infected area. But do not consume it, and clean the infected area before applying it.
