How to Crochet a Baby Blanket
Crocheting a baby blanket is a very easy procedure. Read on to know how to crochet a baby blanket.
Procedure 1:
- The main factor to be decided upon is the crochet pattern and also the type of blanket you want. You can either search the pattern on-line or you can refer to a book. You can give the blanket a lace like look or you can also make it look like the stitches are tight together. You can either create a different and unique pattern or you can also opt for a simple pattern which involves the use of a simple solid color or two.
- The next step is to assemble all the materials required for making the blanket. Then we need to select the type of yarn you want to use. Different options are available with each one having its own pros and cons. For example, cotton yarns are good for sensitive skin while, acrylic blends are easy to wash.
- Now, start with the foundation of the chain. Creating a slip knot around the hook and wrap the yarn around the hook moving down towards the body.
- Through the slip knot loop, push the hook and yarn downwards. Continue this process till the blanket becomes the right size. This must have cleared your doubt about how to crochet a blanket.
- The materials you will require for making a baby blanket are 2 skeins each of 3 colors, with a medium weight of 50/50 cotton/acrylic yarn, crochet hook of size S 35, large eye blunt needle.
- Start with 55 single crochet stitches by holding together one strand of each color throughout the stitching.
- Now, search for the second chain from the hook and stitch a single crochet in that chain. Throughout the stitching, make a single crochet chain in each chain. At the end of this chain, you will have 54 single crochet stitches in a row.
- At the end of the row, make a single crochet link.
- Now, turn the material to the right in such a way that the part which was facing up previously will now face downwards.
- In each single crochet link in the material, make single crochet stitches all the way.
- Repeat all the above steps till the height of the material reaches 24 inches. After it reaches this height, cut the yarn and tie off the end into a knot.
- With a large plastic eye blunt needle, weave the ends into the material. This procedure must have answered your question on "how to make a baby blanket?".
- When you reach close to the end of the yarn, secure it at the end of the row and weave the ends properly before starting a new skein.
- Try to make the stitches consistent in size and keep checking the gauge which will help the blanket come out evenly, and will also make the stitches proportionate.
- While purchasing yarn, check if the skeins consist of the same dye lot, because at times, the color varies from within each lot.
- Always keep a count of the stitches you make because if u miss even a single stitch, your blanket will end up looking triangular in shape.
